Hesitation around 2K?

I noticed for the last few days that I'm getting a hesitation around 2K in my truck. 4.3L V6, CAI, and cat back exhaust are the only mods done, and it's never done this before... I'm thinking fuel pump, simply because I replaced everything to do with spark over the summer (roughly 8K miles ago) but then again, it would be doing it all over the place, not just around 2k. It doesn't matter weather I'm at a complete stop or rolling, if it passes 2K when I'm on it, it does it, and after that it runs like a raped ape (well, as good as a V6 in a full size pickup can run lmao). Any insight to this?

GM likes to put limp home fuel limits right around 2k...

can you scan it for codes with a decent reader?

No codes, I have a data logger that can scan and clear codes, and none are popping up...

I can ask my friend, but there's no CEL, and the last time I had a problem with the truck he said no codes would pop up unless there was a CEL...

Just for reference, I put a new fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, and rotor on it about 8K miles ago, and this is the first time I've noticed it. It runs great other than the hesitation. Oil was changed 2K miles ago, and I'm very religious about oil changes, weather or not that makes a difference IDK, just tossing this stuff out there so you guys have something to go off of.

doesn't necessarily have to throw a CEL for there to be a code.. but anyways

what about the fuel you're running right now? get it anyplace different then usual? has then been going on for more then one tank?

You said you have a CAI on your truck. When was the last time you cleaned/oiled the filter? If you havent, it could be starving your engine for air. Also if you have oiled the intake, and used too much, you could have messed up your MAF. try taking out the maf (VERY CAREFULLY) and spray it with some maf cleaner.

True, every time it happens I pull up the program to check it and there are none...

I usually use Sunoco 87, but the hesitation just started a few days ago, around the half tank mark I believe...

This is true, I've been waiting for the warmer days to clean it, but I may pull it off tonight and clean it, it's been about 8K miles since I touched it...

unless you've been 4x4ing 8k shouldn't be to much on a air filter. not saying that cleaning it wouldn't be beneficial.

grab a can of maf cleaner from the parts store and clean the maf while you're in there.. be sure to ONLY use legit maf cleaner. anything else can **** it up.

if you still have problems trying adding some HEET to your tank along with some high test. might of got some iffy fuel

I usually don't 4x4 a 2wd truck lmao, it's mostly highway driving, and the latest snow driving too... I'll probably fill up with some 89 this time around, and add some injector cleaner while I'm there, then tackle the filter and MAF. Might just go out and get a 93 tune all together... Thanks for the suggestions guys, keep 'em rolling too.

If it has a distributor check the pickup. My tahoe does almost the same thing and I've replaced everything else. Next step will be the pick up

I'll look into that, the only thing I didn't replace was the coil pack...

New details: I guess it comes and goes, it didn't do it once today, and I was driving it for a good 45 mins...

Maybe the Cam sensor bearing? I know it happened in the Dodge and it would simply not want to go over 2k sometimes. It would sputter and jerk the car around though

No, it's like it looses spark for a second or two, then just goes on about it's normal way... it's weird...

My dad said it could be cause it's so cold out, but I really doubt it since the engines fuel injected...

It only takes 87K to burn them out? I thought they lasted longer than that...

Instead of just taking all these wild guesses, since you claim to have a datalogger, why not just go back and look at the recordings of data as you pass 2k rpm and experience the hesitation and watch for which parameter momentarily changes drastically or drops out, that will give you your real answer straight away with no guess work involved
