I have been hearing so many different stories from no job afterwards and insane amounts of debt to graduating and having a decent job. What did you think of it? I guess you can say I put all my eggs in one basket so I hope this **** works out.

My cousin grad from there a few years back. He got a job right out of school with VW. He is happy with it. The kids that don't have jobs when they graduate aren't at the top of their class, just like any other school. Nobody wants the kid with the 2.5GPA when they can someone much better.

Agreed, but disagree. I go to holy ghost a pretty good high school in bensalem/philly and currently have a 2.3, yea i thought hockey would just slide me through which it did but there are reach schools i wish i could go to....i have talked to my guidance counseler and college admissions people who told me that they look at someone from my gpa vs someone with like a 3.0 at a public school the same. Some people may disagree but it all depends on where your comin from and where your going.
but you deff are right though for the most part

Who would want to go into debt for a school that also stands for 'Urinary Track Infection". hate those things. Women need to douche everyday instead of once a year.

Go there now. About to graduate October 1st. Some people get jobs and some don't. The school does try to help out. The Toyota program which I'm taking gives a 8 week paid internship and usually you wind up with a job. Debt just depends on how much you make. I live with my parents so that's less I'll have to pay back.

BDUB I went throught the same program you did (Toyota) and it still doesnt matter. I stayed at the dealer for my 2-3 monthes and had it. There just wasnt any work comming in to make money. Sucks working a 40+ hour week just to bring home 300 bucks. The only people comming in are the ones who want to use their free oil change voucher with a tire rotation. Oil changes only pay 3 tenths of an hour, and 99% of the time they turn down recommended work.

Best of luck getting a decent job as a tech regardless of mechanic work (not talking oil/lube stuff) or body/paint without a bit of prior experience, regardless of what 'papers' and certs you have from school.

Everybody's looking for people with 5-10+ years experience right now in the automotive field. It took a **** mid-late 2008 fast and techs were leaving left and right and getting hours cut regardless of flat rate or not.

Big diffrence between getting into college(you pay them so of course they are less picky) VS getting a job(they pay you and with the job market the way it is they can be very selective).

I went through UTI and got into Porsche PTAP in GA which was the ONLY saving grace to the waste of time UTI was.

I really hope you whole heartedly love to work on cars, I use to, until being a tech for a living totally drained any desire I have to work on cars.

UTI - 1year and change
PTAP - 6mo
Tech - 6weeks and quit

Haven't touched a wrench for pay in over 2 years and love it

I haven't been empolyed for automotive work since Feb 2009, went to an upholstery shop for 6 months then did a little work for a small shop doing body/paint. Been unemployed for 6 months without unemployment and just got hired for a warehouse job at Amazon cause I couldn't get in any body/paint shops unless I wanted $9-$10/hr for a helper position.

All the bad out comes are they from students that just kind of slid by through the program though? I feel like if you work hard an make a point to stand out and do well and really go out and look for employment you should be good. Right? I could be wrong. Maybe just being hopeful.

Being very hopeful, or at least for my area (York/Mechanicsburg PA). All employers are looking for people with more experience or willing to work limited hours. I know at one point mechanics were working 4 8hr days and still standing around at the BMW/Mercedes dealer I worked for as well as just getting sent home an hr or 2 early.

Having a high grade and a bunch of papers out of school doesn't matter unless you are very productive while being accurate, and even then you have to find a place that has that kind of demand/work flow.

i graduated with a 3.8 gpa from there and couldnt find a job. but while i was there i realized they were full of **** about the money you would be making and decided to go back to school and then make more money. most of the classes there are a joke and you never take parts off of cars until you get to hotrod and one other class., then its only off of a t-bucket.

You know I've seen your car in the lot before and wouldn't think you'd be on here. And what you said is true. Add in tpat too that as well.

agreed... i LOVED working on cars, until i made a career out of it. When a hobby becomes a carreer it becomes work instead of play!
