Female "Gear Head" (Help for School Paper)

So I am writing a paper for my PSU English class that is about definitions. I decided to redefine the "Gear Head" to include a more female friendly definition.

Any women out there have any input? It is greatly appreciated.
Guys... I guess you can help too.

Thanks for all the help,
Kevin

I am sorry if this should be in off topic I just thought this was the right place and it would get more views.

gearhead
One entry found.

Main Entry: gear·head
Pronunciation: \ˈgir-ˌhed\
Function: noun
Date: 1974

: a person who pursues mechanical or technological interests (as in automobiles or computers)

You're not re-defining anything. I think you should pick something else to write about since the term has no gender.

Thanks but we are talking about stereotypes here. Stereotypically when you think of a gearhead you would think of a male. There is no doubt that this is a male dominated field. I already talked to my teacher about it and he thought it was a great topic to write about because it was original. If no one on here has any constructive to say then I will just write it without the help, but I thought some people might like to chime in.

well i guess i could help. it wouldn't really be redefining the term per se because technically a gear head is anyone who works on/is obsessed with cars. what exactly were you looking to find out?

Honestly, I've met women that are gearheads.

They refer to themselves as such. It's an extremely neutral term. You asked for our input, we're telling you that it's neutral.

I'd help, but I'm not really sure what information you're looking for. Do you have a list of questions or something that you want us 'female gear heads' to answer?

He's saying "gear head" is masculine, and there should be a neutral term or at least a separate feminine term for someone who appreciates automobiles and their performance.

However, most of the women replying in this are showing gear head is neutral still, like all the guys have been saying.

The term 'Gear Head' in my opinion, refers to an any auto enthusiast that has mechanical skills/knowledge. Doesn't matter if you are male or female. If you have worked on engines, your a 'Gear Head'. Some will even argue that even if they haven't turned a wrench in their life but are book smart about mechanics they are still considered 'Gear Heads'. Even at that, it can be pursued further into saying that if you know auto's in general you can be considered a 'Gear Head'.

As for my female pov, I'm not sure exactly what kind of information you're looking for.

Please, Megan Fox is not a true "Gear Head". She is an actress and has memorized lines. She probably doesn't even know what a torque wrench is none the less how to put oil in her own car.

At least if your gonna give someone famous there due that are female 'Gear Heads' you could have said...

Ashley Force

Melanie Troxel

Leilani Munter

Or Danica Patrick

Now they are 'real' famous 'Gear Heads'
