*UPDATE 3/23 PG 1*Do You Subie Guys Know, Subie is coming to Scion?

*UPDATE 3/23/09*

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/03/23/r...ubaru-rwd-car/

"The last report about the on again/off again sports car being developed jointly by Toyota and Subaru was that it's on again. Today comes word from L'Automobile in France that not only is the rear-wheel-drive Toyubaru going to happen, but it will arrive bearing the Celica name sometime in 2010. If Wikipedia is to be believed, this would be the eighth generation of the Celica, which traces its roots all the way back to 1970 when it debuted in Japan as an inexpensive rear-wheel-drive sports car. Through the years it switched to front- and all-wheel drive, with the final seventh generation Celica sold from 2000 - 2005 being a strict cart puller. L'Automobile claims that Thierry Dombreval, Toyota's VP of sales and marketing in France, spilled the beans on reviving the Celica name, so we won't consider this news solid until a second source comes forward or Toyota officially confirms it, neither of which is likely to happen. So for now all you Celica fans should just sit tight and light a few candles for your cause."

To the Toyota/Scion community this is old news, however, i was wondering how many Subie guys new about this joining of companies to make a car. This scion will replace the TC in 2011 being RWD and having the 2.0L Boxer engine.....

Here is a little info on it but can be googled for a lot more and more pics

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ts_coupe_spied

Suprised or Naw?

*UPDATE* Looks like the car will be put on hold or scrapped all together

Subaru has been in cahoots with toyota for a while now. No, not surprised since the suby community knew about it early this year.

What would you want it to be... the 2.5? Yeah, cause STi is going to give Toyota that motor

2.0 can make 300whp on an AWD drivetrain. RWD it will make more. I think that is plenty to be happy with. I have ~300whp on my 240 and I can't put anything to the ground properly till 3rd on 245 yokos

well, actually, yes i did want it to be that motor. It's not like secret technology or something. I just figured if they were going to combine, why not go balls deep? RWD 300hp turbo coupe, i'd buy.

Im guessing its because they wanted to keep the price to around 20k, thats kinda of a scion/toyota thing to keep the prices affordable....Im sure if toyota wanted to go all out they would of got them to use that motor, but they were not going for a 33k sports car to compete with the STi

You dont seem to understand that the 2.5 would bolt right in...

You would just have to worry about an ECU.

Subaru has been building Camrys for Toyota for years, so I'm not surprised.

I've heard this rumor for awhile now, and don't think there is a car enthusiast alive who wouldn't like to see a RWD/boxer. That would be hot combo!
