do you need any other supporting mods for this? And could you buy another ecu and get that flashed to your car so you can keep your warranty

Well yea it's a risk but something needs to go wrong that the flash could have caused to void your warranty. However VW/Audi is running a "TD1" flagging right now where cars with flashes get flagged and they say warranty is void. Truth is though there needs to be proof. It's hard to prove since most people don't have the time or money to hire a lawyer but still a possibility.

I recently took my car into Audi with a blown ECU Relay. I was worried about warranty issues and they tried to tell me if the car is chipped they will know and void the warranty. However I had no issues. It's been hit or miss for many. I felt the same way though I've had regrets about flashing a DD but every time I dump the gas in stage 1 it's totally worth it.

For stage 1 with most companies (APR, Unitronic, GIAC, etc) you do not. You could try to get a second ECU but a) it's costly b) needs to be specially flashed to match your car c) there are anti tamper bolts that keep the ECU looked in. Unless you have the bolts and do a clean job, it's detectable.

Older cars are easier so depends on the year.
