More Doritos! - Family Size, Cool Ranch Edition

I have taken a dive into the rotary world, it's a 04 RX-8 GT manual with a blown engine. I picked up an engine/trans from a JDM importer. The idea is a car with a back seat for the kid that is manual and fun to drive. I bought this car in March of 2021, and then a few weeks later we found out kid number 2 is on the way and plans changed and the car got pushed down the list. I finally started the engine swap over thanksgiving break.

Pictures from when I bought it:

The old engine is out and the new engine is in. Just needs some buttoning up.

Replacement Engine:

Hopefully all is good with the replacement engine (no guarantee) and we can just enjoy the car for a while. Take it to an autox or trackday next summer.

If we really like it I may try to convince the boss to buy another chassis and build it with a more powerful/reliable engine.

I can get my compression tester back and send it your way I also have a couple of sets of BHR LS coils, at least one bad coil though... I've been too lazy to do anything with them (aka sell them)

Love my 8, hope yours is a ton of fun as well!

Nice, congrats on the progress made. Should be a fun car if all is well with the new motor. Keep it simple!

Yes I would be very interested in the compression tester once the car is together. The car came with new coils so I should be good there. The previous owner replaced them before he diagnosed the low compression.

As luck would have it, the car is still in the state in the pictures. Baby number two came 2 weeks early. Everyone is happy and healthy. This car apparently gets the baby juices flowing haha.

I'm on parental leave for a while, so hopefully I can find a few minutes to button up the last things.

I'll bug the guy that has it.

Fresh OEM coils should be good to go for a while.

Congrats on baby #2! Good luck with finding the time on the car, haha

Considering the unexpected but exciting arrival of baby number two, how do you plan to balance your parental leave with completing the final steps of your car project?

How do you envision balancing your parental leave with the remaining tasks on your car project, especially with the arrival of baby number two?
