+1.

I need an older BMW. Errybody needs older BMWs. I want an E34 or an E28 in the worst way.

<3333 You're spot on with that though. Every time I let people drive this thing, they either want to buy it, buy one on their own, or get really close to buying one. It's a drivers car with a classic styling, I love it (when it works).

I HATE E34s. They look so sweet but are the 1gs of the Bimmers. They fall apart, eat up suspension parts, interiors fall apart, tons of wiring issues, etc. After selling my E34T I could never buy one again.

E28s, however

535iS is all I want. Well, I really just want an E28 M5 *the perfect car*, but I don't have $50K lying around unfortunately.

Guys, Heidi went in for brain surgery.

The valve cover was squeaky clean underneath.

The head, not so much.

Western Union works better if you don't mind.

This bitch is supposed to be ported but doesn't look very ported

Here you can see a 1" mark taken out of each bowl, other than that the head doesn't really look ported at all. Exhaust ports are untouched, intake ports don't look touched either.

^ Lol. I don't know why I love E34s so much. Maybe because I haven't owned one? My brother has had two and still loves them, haha.

You know it's true! I'm just waiting to be in a place where I can build another car. A V8 in an E30 has been at the top of my 'want to build list' for far too long. I had the chassis and swap kit. And then I got scared.

For now I'll just live vicariously through your build

Well, let me say this. E34s look badass, and ride awesome/have good power when they're all said and done, but they're big and bulky, so they tend to require a ton more attention than E30s. I bought my E34 to use as a reliable daily and not put work into, and it was the total opposite, so I was pissed.

However, if you got a 540i/6MT E34 and treated it as a slow project that you liked working on, I think you would really enjoy it.

In a three months span I had to do tie rods, ball joints, center tie bar, struts, control arm bushings, tires, strut mounts, subframe bushings, trailing arm bushings, water pump, intake boot, front main, rear main, motor mounts, and the list goes on. Every time I fixed something a new leak or clunk would appear.

God forbid your Nikasil block wasn't replaced with an Alusil block early on, you'd need to do a motor too.

That car only had 175K on it.

Ugh, that sounds miserable, lol. Not quite on that scale, but I had an E39 540 that was really nickel and diming me in a similar manner. Every week a new component needed replaced. I ended up ditching it. I wish I would have kept it. It was a 2003 540i/6 M.

Those E39s are known to nickel and dime just like the E34s. However, they're awesome when you fix everything and they're just cruising.

I'm telling you, E28 M5 is where it's at. TST should pool money together and share one.

Scrubbed carbon and grease for like 3 hours today. Don't mind the unfocused pix.
