doesn't your viewfinder blink and tell you what is in focus? maybe you accidentally adjusted the eyepiece focus thing? I shoot with cheap tiffen filters and i never had a problem with soft focus.

I actually don't mind #9 composition. it might be the only one i do like.

No, long story short he said that a lot of people break into the place so he was just checking what we were doing. Then one of the guys who was with us was like "hey youre the guy who arrested me like a year ago" so he collected our IDs and wrote down info, then joked around with us for a bit and left. Nice guy.

It does, but the autofocus is weird for some reason...it never focuses on what i want it to focus on

Guys it was just a testing day, I put the photos up asking for C+C because I want to get better, so feel free to tear them apart, and if I start questioning you its not because I dont agree its because I want to see what you see so I can do better next time.

why dont you tell us how your focus was setup? center point, etc. that might help and if you're having trouble with the focus you might need to send it to be looked at

you can force the focus to certain points on the focus screen for instance, you can set the camera up so that only one of the squares is the focus, or set it so any of them will be the point of focus?

Well I havent figured out the AF focusing point setup (but i do know what you mean) so after a few pictures I just switched to MF...I should start taking like 2-4 shots of the same thing with slightly different focus just to be sure because its hard to tell sometimes in the viewfinder for me cause its so small.

the AF point setup is on camera and its the button behind the shutter release that looks like a square with little tiny squares inside of it. push that button then move the wheel until the point you want the camera to use as focus is the one on the readout. for what you were doing, the center point would most likely work best.

take a minute and read that

Thanks for the explanation and link. I am familiar with what the feature does but havent really had much time to experiment with it, as well as many other features.

no real experimentation needed. want it to focus on the center? pick the center spot, etc. takes about 5sec to do before a shot

As an idea to improve some, if I had taken 6,7,8,and 9 with a less busy background and sharper focus would they have been better??

I don't think the DOF is the problem.

#1 - too much sky
#2 - ok
#3 - Not in focus
#4 - ok - it bores me.
#5 - ok - it bores me.
#6 - car is not in focus (raise your F stop if you want both car and sign in focus)
#7 - ok, directly head on might have been cool
#8 - looks a bit out of focus, but has decent composition
#9 - ok
#10 - would look better cropped more.

Didn't read all of what every body else said but some photos do look out of focus.

When I shot with your camera it seemed that it was on the auto focus points. I usually find that junk and use force focus points my self. Where I pick the point that I want the camera to focus on.

I'll have mine up later tonight in the gallery section probably.

Here's one though.

Go into custom functions and change your auto focus from the shutter release to *

This allows you to focus lock and re-frame the image without having to keep the shutter half-pressed.
