Want to borrow: Canon lens

Looking to try working with a new lens just to see the difference over my kit lens. Id like one with IS built in, a decent zoom range (55-200, 75-300, etc.) and would really like an L series lens. I shoot using an XTi.

1. I can give you money to hold as collateral, I will give you as much as the lens costs new, just do you know that if I accidentally drop it, w/e, you have the money.

2. If anyone local to philly wants to meet with me and take some pictures together and let me play around with their lens that would also work, would actually be preffered.

I just want to use the lens for a few hours or so because if the difference isnt that great to me, I dont want to shell out hundreds of dollars to find that out after I get it.

Any takers?? Ill treat lunch if you can do option 2.

Thanks a lot!

-Alex

you can rent lenses at shops and if you end up buying then they deduct your rental fee from the sales price. thats probably your best bet since i wouldnt let anyone i wasnt good friends with borrow my gear personally.

Wow, I didnt know you could rent the stuff, ill have to look into that. Still looking to avoid cost, plus if someone could do #2 it would be more beneficial, everyone I know shoots with Nikon.

Thanks for the heads up

Giving money as collateral will be around $1400 for a 70-200L w/ IS. Renting is probably your best bet for that type of lens.

You're not comparing the same product line. The 70 300 is a f/4.5-f/5.6 lens, slow at the longer focal length.

Nikon's 70 200 f/2.8 VR goes for ~ $1500? Canon makes a 70 200 f/4.0 for $600 and a 70 300 f/4.0-f/5.6 for $550.
