Ok, I know its a terrible idea but tell me why. Camber issue. Expln the science to me

I realize its a bad idea. But I want to hear the science behind it.

I have major issues with my lowered w203 in the front camber. I'm about to order the kmac front camber kit for $500 but was given this idea by a local old school hot rod guy.

According to him, SCCA drivers will often replace the upper hub bolt with a smaller diameter GRADE 8 bolt, lock washer, and two fender washers. This is to correct negative camber when a lobbed upper hub bolt won't correct negative camber.

He also told me that machining the upper hub bolt hole out will give more range of camber but I know thats just a terrible idea.

How are all these old men still alive?

Thoughts?

Its going to be harder to dial-in and adjust, but i wouldnt say its unsafe. Just use quality hardware that will not snap and you'll be fine.

Is it standard struts with 2 bolts to the bub? You can also get eccentric bolts that are made for correcting camber.

I've used this method before on airlift sleeve bag struts for scion xB's. It works. After there were a lot of issues with their setups, they starting doing it in house on their setups.

I've tried the eccentric bolt kits which supposedly will net me 1.75 degrees camber. But they don't come anywhere near that much adjustability.

I may have to try the smaller diameter hardware.

I'm not thrilled about a $500 price tag to have adjustable front camber........

This will be the third time I have my alignment done. Lifetime alignment specials do not apply to merceded as a special toe adjustment tool is needed.

Thanks guys!

Here's the last alignment.

I actually made my rear adjustable camber arms out of chrome moly tie rods. Go the rear perfectly dialed in.

I really appreciate the help guys.

Ever think about running a pair of those bolts per strut?

Its fairly common to slot that upper hole on the strut housing to get more camber adjustment in racing applications- drift cars especially. Use good hardware and use a Dremel and you'll be fine.

I shall bust out the dremel and grade 8 hardware this weekend.

I have thought about a pair of those eccentric bolts but was hesitant as the bolts aren't made exactly for my application. I have a hard time finding parts for my car. Mercedes specific parts are a major pita to find or afford.

Yea, suspension company named Kmac.

They troll every thread on the mercedes forums. Any posting mentioning camber they bomb with their ads and testimonials. Best part is that the merc camber adjusment is four poly bushings with sleeves and new bolts. For $500........
