If I knew then what I know now... / I really should have listened when...

If you knew then what you know now about your car, what woudl you have done differently?
Or what were the things that people told you not to do but you couldnt resist and did them anyway? Then you realized you should have listened to them...

I wish I would have known that installing 3" inlet stock location turbos on Subarus is just plain futile. I spent many frustrating hours getting mine on and I never want to touch it again.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have done an 06 swap intead of the newest fanciest thing which was an 07 swap. Hell, if I knew then what I know now I wouldn't have swapped anything on the Subaru and I would have just gotten busy with the Supra, but eh timing wasn't ideal on how that all went down.

So... whats yours? Could be interested and even helpful to others...

3" inlet install.

Remove all manifold bolts. Slide manifold to pass side of vehicle. install inlet onto turbo. Put rope around manifold. Have brother pull manifold from driver side. Install bolts!

Easy as pie!

its funny you post this question as i think about it alot. in hindsight i would not have jumped on the deal i got for my front mount, turbo, intake, injectors ect.. and just waited longer until i had the money to do what i really wanted, and to do it all right from the begining.
even though once i get a new job (so can start spending money on my car again) i will be able to use a lot of the parts i have for the next phase, id just rather have bought it all at once myself, and still had all my oem parts in the case that i have to go back to stock.

overall though, just having the info i have now, would have been invaluable

You didnt ;). But yeah... those damn 5 speeds. I think the 6 speed swap was me being the opposite of this thread... that decision was better than I realized at the time... but thats kind of off topic here I think.

I would have bought a new STi in 04 & not wasted my time & money w/ the WRX. dont get me wrong, I loved having the WRX & I really enjoyed modding it & driving it, but I should have stepped up & gotten the STi from the beginning.

OR,

Dont mod cars, get a WRX or something cheap & fun as a DD, save money, & BUY A HOUSE!!!!!!

don't spend any $$ modding the tC, keep it as a clean DD.

Instead, save my $$$ up and buy a nice project car/weekend drifter/auto-xer 240 or mk3 Supra, etc...

OR

don't spend any money on cars at all, instead, save all my $$$ and eventually become a billionaire then buy up all your guys cars... :D

Ehhh...

Sometimes I wish I wouldn't overcomplicate things instead of just using stuff that works. For instance, buying a wideband that can datalog blah blah blah when I have tuning system that does that job better. Other than that, maybe wish I went Bseries but eh.

I wish i had never sold my dsm, and i wish that if i had decided to go hondas i would have bought what i wanted the first time instead of always "settling" for cars that i dont like that much.

I would agree with you on the 06 swap on everything but the trans. You can't do without that longer 07 3+4 gear but you could certainly do without the ECU gremlins that live in the 07 STI's ECU

My biggest thing was buying a used Eclipse and thinking I could fix it up as a daily driver.
That thing turned into the biggest money pit headache and will go down in my memory as the worst car I ever owned!

damn straight... I would have you every inch of the back seat of the '73 mustang convertible I had... instead of waiting on my dead fish of an ex to put out...

I also would have bought the used mach1 instead of the srt-4

i would have bought a new turbo and some piston rings and not swapped the motor out that was in the car when it was sold to me... could have saved a lot of money and had a faster car by now... but i have not regrets.

I never would have gotten rid of my first car. Most of my "if I knew" stuff doesn't involve cars so I'll leave it out of here but I must agree with the previous ass comment.
