as a little indication of how severely lacking most peoples' situational awareness is, i OCed nearly the entire day (til about 4:30) and no one ran screaming, no one took my gun from my holster and no one was shot. also, the police did not detain/hassle me and the meet 'for the children' wasn't ruined. for that matter, the only person who said a word or even gave a second look was an old guy driving a 56 bel air who shook my hand and asked what caliber my M&P was. we talked about his OCed Kimber UCII for a while and about the ridiculous antics of us OCers who ruin it for everyone else. lol. sure, some people probably think i did it just to be "that guy", but honestly i enjoyed myself more because i wasn't soaked with sweat from my IWB holster. it was hot as balls today. haha
(i figured i'd just post in here because if i bump the sonic OC thread, we'll probably have lots more whining and crying lol)

i was definitely looking for people i recognized, but since i've never really met anyone from TST in person i was kinda wandering in the dark. i figured you'd be pretty easy to spot, i told my friends to be on the lookout for an asian chick with a gun or five strapped on various body parts. no such luck tho. haha

damn I was looking for ppl OCing. Told Jul I guess no one had the balls to do it... guess I was wrong haha. Bravo to you sir.
as for sweaty IWB holsters, LCP in a pocket holster works great in summer weather. In case you were wondering Jul, that was a .380 in my pocket. I wasn't that excited to see you. lol ;)

As for the gun itself, it's definitely a bit snappy, but that's to be expected from a medium-powered load out of a handgun that small and light. It's still not so snappy that it's painful to practice with, not like a 2" barreled unobtanium .357 or something. It's also more accurate than I am. I can put together about a 3" group at 5 yrds, which is pretty much the range the gun was intended to be used at. It's also never had a single malfunction of any kind. I've run a few different types of JHPs through it, along with plenty of ball and flat nose ammo and it gobbles it all right up and spits the empties out with a purpose. My only real complaint is the integral sights that are basically useless for anything less than bullseye shooting in broad daylight. For this reason when I practice with it I mostly practice point shooting. There's just no way you'll have time to find and align the sights at the distances this gun might be used in. Fortunately it's very "pointable" and after some practice I can now get good hits even in the dark with no use of the sights at all. I plan on eventually solving this problem completely with a crimson trace laser. All in all, I would highly recommend it. Only thing that sucks is .380 ACP is so hard to find right now.

As far as .380 being hard to find, that never has been my experience, and I still haven't come across that problem. In fact, I never understood when people said that. All of the gun stores that I frequent have it readily available. Last edited by ITSTOCK; 05-03-2010 at 08:33 PM. |

I don't like my defensive handguns to have any type of manual safety. If I had grown up shooting 1911s however I would definitely prefer the P238. There's also a pretty significant price difference between those two pistols. Is the P238 meant to be carried in condition 1? Not sure how I'd feel about that in a pocket holster. I guess as long as the pocket holster completely covered the trigger guard but I'd still be a little uneasy about carrying a pistol with a cocked hammer and a short, light trigger pull in my pocket. The LCP has a pretty long, stiff trigger which is part of the reason I feel so comfortable carrying it +1 in a pocket holster.

dont hurt me, im new to this particular thread. what exactly is wrong or bad about OC ? i carry my weapon OC mostly in the summer but mostly because i cant hide it anyhow and in the winter, like most people, im wearing a hoody or larger clothing so just as a matter of ease, its under my clothing. also, i use fobus holsters with all my handguns because i dont ever wear a belt, even tho i should some times, so that would facilitate me purposely pulling my clothing out and over top of my weapon to expose it. the only time that i purposely CC is when i am putting myself in a situation where i feel that having my weapon exposed will actually lead to a confrontation or problem. it is our given right, in pa, to carry our weapon however we feel and i exercise my own discretion when i carry.

the gist of it is, basically some people think wearing a gun openly will instantly cause a massive riot, sending panicked women and children trampling each other to get away from the obviously deranged individual with a holstered firearm... and of course that's only if you're lucky enough to stop the random people who are always trying to snatch guns out of the holsters of private citizens from taking yours and shooting everyone within a 5 mile radius with it.
However for some unknown reason police officers with holstered weapons do not cause this same phenomenon. It's the ol' ostrich/head-in-the-sand/fingers-in-the-ears method of living in your own little world. Apparently some people will simply pee their pants in horror upon the mere sight of a firearm (unless it's carried by a cop ![]() If I was that terrified of guns I think the best course of action would be to move out of PA and into NY or NJ. Here in PA we value our personal freedoms and our right to self-preservation. If guns scare you so much move some place where they are heavily restricted. Of course the states with the tightest gun laws also have the highest rates of violent crime, but that's of no concern to someone who is already obviously not very familiar with the concept of logic and critical thinking. the funniest thing is, there was at least one person open carrying at the sonic meet and no one even noticed. ![]()

Yes, condition 1, and why would you not feel comfortable carrying this way, especially when you admit that you don't like your guns having any type of manual safety? That makes absolutely zero sense to me. You are fine with carrying one in the chamber and no safety with a horrible trigger, but worried about carrying cocked and locked with a nice trigger? To each his own.
Cost should never be a consideration when it comes to a quality firearm. You are talking a lousy couple hundred dollars, don't have the money now?...wait another week or two or three when you do. It bothers me that I was even considering the purchase of one of the others (the P3AT and LCP were actually at the top of the list ahead of the P238..., until I realized how junky they were in comparison). Another huge plus with the P238 is that along with the nice sights, nice trigger, and smooth action, it's also ridiculous quick on follow up shots (unlike the other two). It's got a whole lot going for it. The safety doesn't bother me at all, I've gotten quite used to the safety on my 1911's. Of course my G26 is one less step, but I'll manage just fine. Also, very few quality "defensive handguns" don't have any manual safeties. But if that's your thing, point conceded. I just strongly disagree that you have to be "familiar and competent" to get a quality carry gun in which you should learn to use to the best of your ability in the first place. And lastly, don't get me wrong, the LCP/P3AT are perfect deep concealment carry guns. Again, those along with the P238 were my three choices, all good choices and whatever works best is what one should get. However, make sure you do look at the other options in the first place. Quote:
