If you're properly setting it up to grip, it should be ever so slightly tuned towards steady state over steer so all you have to do is be a bit extra aggressive on turn in and you're got drift. It definitely takes some balls to do at first but before you know it, it will be second nature

I was going to come back and reply with "ciottis car is set up for mximum grip, which ive witnessed first handed with white knuckles...but even a car with superb grip can loose it with the correct use of your right foot"
But instead, just reread what Ciotti said.

You have 200 whp in the rear wheels with an LSD. Im not sure of the power of Ciottis, ide guess around 275? (what is the HP on your motor ciotti?) and in a car that weighs a lot more then your car CN. Miatas are hard to hang the ass end out on because of the short wheel base, they like to snap back straight and get on their way. Im deff. no drifter at all, but if im feeling frisky I can hang my car out for a good while. Granted I have awful tires and no weight to my car, but even when it was stock it did it. Thats with 100 hp. The way I learned in our cars is in the rain in empty lots and trial and error in the dry, in the same empty lots. You're comfortable with your MSM now, so if you really want to learn how to get her sideways just give it hell
You gotta learn how to loose traction before you can learn how to make it.

The solution to your problem is more entry speed when you initiate the drift so that you're not using the motor's power to push the rear end out and create the angle, you're just balancing it between slip and grip to maintain the angle. Doing that is quite a bit more dangerous because of the extra entry speed involved and if you get it wrong you're 360ing or gripping and plowing towards the outside of the corner with a bunch of extra speed to try and scrub off. That's what separates the men from the boys in drifting though and when you enter fast as hell, get everything right balancing the car perfectly with the throttle, and then come blasting out the other side you're rewarded with two gigantic plumes of smoke from the rear tires and a whole heap of adrenaline. Or you get it wrong and end up with a broken right front wheel on Christmas Eve Cranking the steering wheel and pounding the gas pedal to the floor isn't drifting, it's power sliding (you're using power to slide the car)... Drifting is coming in hot and flicking the car into a drift and then maintaining that angle which requires very little power if you're doing it right (which takes loads of practice). Look at the little 120 horsepower Corollas, they are some of the most sought after drift cars and don't make much more power than a horse and carriage!

Ciotti i agree, but in our cars...you have to mix a heavy foot IN with entry speed. A lot of entry speed is always needed like you said. It just sounded like you were saying not to keep your foot in it hard after the entrance. Which in our cars, will just propel you out of the turn normally. You need a lot of lead in your shoes to reallllly swing out cars good.

Believe it or not, with enough entry speed you don't need any gas at all regardless of what car it is, but the car will be cornering hard and slowing down an awful lot during the drift which is very similar to what we do in autocross but with much less angle (cars corner hardest with around 10 degrees worth of slip angle). Using the gas pedal allows you to completely blow the rear tires off making almost no grip back there and the car will go fairly straight while maintaining it's speed and slip angle.

Isnt that kind of what I said? To keep it going you need to keep up on the gas, or like you said it will slow down a lot. Maybe we are confusing eachother lol
