So I'm bored. I don't have any photos to post so that pretty lame. I've made a few small changes to the car, and bought a couple substantial parts. I bought a HKS Fuel Rail. Its purple. I had to. I honestly don't know when I'll get around to installing it, but I realized the return line port is in a different spot on this rail so I will have to redo at least one AN line... pain in the arse. ![]() I also bought an RPS Carbon/Carbon Twin Disc Clutch. They are a very widely used and debated clutch among Supra owners. Not a cheap clutch, but they hold a ton of power and last a long while with all carbon pads throughout the clutch. However the old design used a modified stock strapped pressure plate and there were quite a few catastrophic failures of the straps causing a lot of damage. Their solution was to offer a new billet strapless pressure plate. The clutch I just purchased does not have the billet strapless pressure plate right now but I decided to just spend the money on taking care of that now for the peace of mind that hopefully the clutch will work out great for me for a long time to come. From what I read its pretty grabby but pedal pressure isn't overly stiff and once you get used to driving it its really quite nice. As with all non-stock pressure plates, especially multi disc clutches, it may make a slight rattle at idle, but often raising the idle slightly (which I'll be doing anyway for the cams) lessens the rattle or does away with it completely. When I install the clutch I'm going to have to take a close look at my rear main seal. Although I replaced it one year and 3500 miles ago, it appears to be leaking. Sunnova! ![]() (similar but not exact clutch... mine has carbon pads on the flywheel as well, no metal contact anywhere. cant find any good exploded photos of the Supra version online!) ![]() I had JM Fabrications make me a custom coolant overflow reservoir which came out really sweet. Jim took the time to build it right to my specs and it came out great. I definitely recommend them for welding and fabrication, top notch shop for sure. I'll get some photos of it even though I had LPC powdercoat it gloss black for me so now it blends into the shadows of my engine bay, keeping things nice and clean looking ![]() I also found and fixed my mysterious coolant leak as well. Turns out it was an unused port off the waterpump that I had capped with a rubber plug. The plug dried out and cracked and bam... pretty bad coolant leak. Its ghetto fixed right now and I'd really like to find a better solution, but now there's about 2" of silicone hose over the port with a bolt stuck in the end of the hose to plug it off. This is what a lot of guys on SF recommend to avoid drying/cracking/leaking but lets be serious, its pretty ghetto. Perhaps a silicone vacuum cap will hold up better and present a clean solution? Not sure. Hmm, ok I also had paintless dent repair done from a guy who was recommended by LIP Collison. You might remember that LIP did some great paint work on the car for me earlier so I definitely trust anyone they recommend. We also discovered while the car was at LIP that the leak in my rear hatch is actually a bad rear window seal... and the proper way to fix it is to have the windshield removed and put back in with a fresh seal all the way around. Pain in the ass and an extra $125 to take care of that... I'll get to it soon. Some of you (those at the last Ross meet or at last months Hooters show) may be aware I was having some rubbing issues with my front fender liners when I turned the wheel. Well I think I finally remedied that one. I trimmed the section of the fender liner that was rubbing and was actually able to tuck it behind the upper liner so things are as tight and out of the way as possible. If it still rubs then the only option is a shorter tire or raising the car up. I still have a big pile of parts sitting here not installed on the car. I don't want to repeat myself a hundred times about what they all are but hopefully soon I'll actually install some of them and stop being lame. Sonic is over, so I'm a bit relieved, and hope to play with the car a bit when I can find the time. Ok thats it... probably one of the most boring updates in the thread, but whatever, its an update!

just out of curiosity...do the mkiv have issues with the wire harness getting shredded if the car is too low? i know with the SC they ran the harness in the driver's side wheel well and if the car is low enough it can eat right through the fender liner into the harness, causing big problems.

Interesting question... when I got the car the harness was shredded like crazy! I think the previous owner road raced and neglected some things pretty bad.
I'm not sure how it happened but the car didnt have fender liners at all and the wiring inside was really torn up. Fred fixed it all up for me so its as good as new, and we have it tied up nice and tight now, and of course now I have new fender liners in place. The car hasn't rubbed at the top of the fender liner, it was actually rubbing at the front of the liner, around the 2pm position only when the wheel is turned and clearance is reduced to nil. Hopefully thats over with now though!

Nice Bryan, looks like you still got alot going on!! Slow steady progress is good, not overwhelming hurry up gotta get it done type of work. This thing is gonna keep getting better.
And I'm not really familiar with Supras at all so bare with me. Maybe removal of the waterpump and welding the open port closed? If it can be done fairly easily.

Thanks, yeah I have fresh fender liners in there and as long as I'm not rubbing on the tops of those too bad then the wiring should be safe now.
Removal of the water pump and welding the port shut is a perfect solution and I wish I knew to do that before I even installed it. However at this point its quite a bit of work to remove the water pump so its not something that I'd do for just that. Maybe when I have the front of the motor apart for the cam install I'll pull the water pump and take care of that... that might make sense. With the Philly Auto Show and then all the planning for The Sonic Meet I definitely didn't get the work done on the car that I had planned to this winter, but oh well... I don't want to stress over strict deadlines so I just haven't pushed it. I'd like to put the car down soon to take care of a ton of installs so we'll see how things come together for that. I also just found someone local selling a set of RX-7 wheels with ET Streets on them... a great inexpensive track setup for the Supra. Only thing is that there are 2 types of RX-7 wheels with a slight difference in barrel shape... one type clears rear TT Supra calipers and the other doesn't. From the pics it looks like these might be the version that does not clear, but I won't know for sure until I install them. If they are the type that don't fit I'm hoping that a 5mm spacer will remedy the situation, since the clearance issue is a matter of millimeters, but this will be a bit of an experiment. I haven't heard anyone else try running a spacer on them so I'm not sure if it will work or not.

What sort of port is not plugged on the water pump? There has to be a proper plug for it somewhere. If you want me to call my Toyota guy and talk to him about it let me know.

Thanks for the offer Dan. It was a line that was used for the stock twin turbos but isn't used any more with my single turbo... its like 3/8" if I had to guess. Probably a generic silicone vacuum cap with a clamp over it should work fine. I had a normal rubber vacuum cap on it which after a year dried out, cracked, and leaked.

Haha yes they will fit any non TT Supra calipers just fine. You stepping up your game when you get home?

I want to get some auto-x/track/drag time in maybe, although the power won't be there it would still be enjoyable. After this trip I don't plan on having the cash to do any big changes, so I may as well enjoy the car as she is now. Ideally I get to the point where I can drive the piss out of her N/A then once I go NA-T or GTE I'll know the car inside and out.

Ok so I drove to NNJ to pick up the wheels and slicks tonight... couple pics of them and then one "is this bad?" picture...
![]() ![]() Is this bad? What could have caused it? Picutre quality is meh but its like feathered over on the sidewall... weird. Really hope that doesn't make the tire unsafe. Its just on the surface but its definitely there, looks like a thin layer of rubber has been rubbed off. Not sure how thick the sidewalls are in the first place.

I was thinking something like this, but its just in that one spot... tread is definitely feathered / chunked / scuffed there in a way that would have taken some force I think.
