I think by the time it gets through the rest of the exhaust it will be a little quieter. Well see, I plan on getting an exhaust made from the downpipe back eventually so if I have to I'll put a resonator in there.

Threw another CEL today on my way to work. I was in 4th gear, the car felt like it was kinda lugging, then I gave it a tad bit more gas and it just took off and got back into it's regular powerband and then threw a CEL about a second later. Flashed and is now constantly on. Also getting a strange noise sometimes when slowly releasing the clutch, sounds like chatter. Also still have strange brake noises, and a new strange popping noise when I start shut off the car, sounds like a bad engine mount but it doesn't feel like it's bad.

First thing after work I'm running to AAP and getting the light checked out, then start figuring out what the rest of the **** is. Not giving up on this!

If anyone is going to be at the Sonic meet tonight (if I go) can you go for a ride, I'll take it to a big quiet parking lot so you can hear some of this stuff and give me opinions? LMK if you wanna help out.

if your engine light is flashing you shouldn't drive it.

It flashed 10x and then stayed constantly on. It hasn't flashed since.

Last time I had a CEL changing the plugs fixed it. Basically with the intake, the turbo spools faster than normal which confuses the ECU and in some cases causes a slight lean condition for a split second. There is an o2 modifier that comes with the intake kit to patch this problem but I never got around to installing it. Over time this lean condition could foul the plugs and lead to misfires, etc. I need to get the code checked after work and go from there.

As far as the other issues, I have no idea what they are related to but I will start looking into them this weekend, I need to have the car running healthy to rice this summer.

Strange thing is even with the CEL the car drives perfectly. No bogging down, no odors, stalling, RPM fluctuation, still has the same power, builds boost fine, so I dunno. I'll update with more later this afternoon.

You should really have one of them code readers in your glove box. I know a lot of people that have the small one that they drive around with. Everyone that mods their car should have one for times like these before you could possibly do more harm then good ignoring it until you can receive help. But just hope its something stupid.

Yea I really want to invest into one of those, they are cheap too. The only thing is I haven't seen any of the small ones that actually tell you what the code is, so if I do throw a CEL somewhere on the highway, pull over, and get the code, not knowing what it means won't do me any good and I don't want to have to carry a handbook with me as well.

If it's a misfire, either I need new coilpacks, plugs, or both. The o2 modifier has to go in either way to get the car running a bit better than now.

No Kevin, the Miata is not associated with Ford (at least the NA and NB), the new one does feel like it has a few Ford-ish bits which are mainly in the very plastic interior and IMO lower build quality.

Idle, power, spool, drivability, all perfect. No smoke, no smell, nothing.

I'm thinking so too. My friend's old 97 STO used to misfire all the time, he even had a code reader to clear them and used it regularly. Someone said I should be running colder plugs but I don't think I'm at that power level yet.

They tell you the code. It's like the size of your palm with a cord. You get the code put it into google on your phone or computer and this thing called the internet tells you what the code means.
