I was already looking into katzkin leather, and he replaced the tailgate. Not sure how much the driveshaft bearing, and the steering stabilizer would go for.

the 10k sounded too good to be true, when something similar goes for around 20k.

They are both only roughly 40 dollar a shot pieces (I'm not sure about labor or anything like that)...but to me (and I MAY be wrong) it seems like a very weird wear-and-tear item.

Drive-shaft bearing and steering stabilizer?

Although this sounds intriguing, I do already have dental insurance at my job. All I pay is my co-pay (no additional monies taken from my check), but, it is still expensive. I know I'll need a lot of work done and really can't afford it right now.

Jim, I advise you not to go with that truck. It has the 6.0 motors which give many problems around this point in time. He said he used it as a work truck as well so who knows how much grunt work has been done with that truck. 173k miles is like 75k on a regular gas motor. If it was the 7.3 I'd say do it, but don't.

Reliability wise, you really can't go wrong with the diesels, as they can take a beating way more than the gas engines. They also last a ton longer, however, as with anything maintenance is key. I've seen these trucks come in with 300k miles and still ticking strong, but they aren't cheap to work on simply because of how jammed in those motors are. Changing injectors and such on those are just as difficult as changing spark plugs on a Subaru, only there's 4 more to change. However, just like the Subarus, the turbos sit on top and basically swap out in minutes. They are reliable trucks in diesel form, in the 7.3L, I did notice a lot of the 6.0L have more issues. If you really want a reliable truck, I'd suggest a diesel one for the right price/condition way over a gas one.

I would definitely go diesel as well Nick. In a few years I might be looking into a diesel truck, but some of the normal maintence parts for a diesel can be a little more pricey than the gas stuff. In the end I will probably just decide to get a gas powered one. I will be doing a lot of trailering with a car, but as long as you upkeep on gas ones they will hold up. Also plus for diesels is that they hold their value real well.

Because VW parts are expensive as is, and I'm sure their diesel parts would be worse. Plus don't get the comfort like a truck does haha.

they are not that outrageously expensive. there are a few parts that are kinda up there, but everything else is pretty much normal IMO not sure about newer cars.

Dan, was the diesel car reference to me? I'm mainly looking for a truck, something 4x4, and completely something that can't be parallel parked easily in the city.

Looks like ill be keeping my eye out for trucks. Found a couple excursions, but they're gas v10's.

I'm down with midevil times trip, as long as I get to walk around while eating a giant turkey leg

you dont really get to walk around but you do get a big portion of finger food IIRC. its a pretty good time.

people dont like getting rid of their diesels unless they have to ive noticed.

Who would get rid of it? One of the best vehicles ever made in my opinion. You could buy a diesel truck, sell it down the road 5 years later and lose like only $5k or less in value. So hard to get a hold of them for a decent price.

Jim, what's your spending limit?
