You're right. They shouldn't have to. But I think it may avoid it a bit.

well i only clicked on the first link you posted which addressed the use of IM abbreviations. I'm ok with those as long as they are used in conjunction with proper sentence structure, punctuation, etc. It bothers me more to see improper grammar, ridiculous spelling errors, and words flat out used incorrectly than to see abbreviations being used. and just because they're stickied does not mean that everyone is going to take the time to read the sticky, and then put what they've read into practice. I think infraction points for incoherent babble would be much more effective than a sticky.

The second one defines the differences between to/two/too, your/you're, their/they're/there, etc.

I'd be willing to bet they're just as bad. People that can spell correctly and use correct grammar, usually do no matter what.

i do my best to use correct grammar and spelling... it irritates me considerably when people type out something they consider may be incorrect and place a (sp?) after it... you're on the god damn internet, use it... dictionary.com asshole...

I usually type with proper grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, etc. but sometimes, especially if I'm on my phone, I get lazy.
