I just know now that they can fix things that I previously thought the car would have been thrown away for and that it's not nearly as big of a deal as I once thought it was. If they do it right, the car could end up stronger than it was before the damage happened.

My old car was fixed right and it was never the same. It would walk when I drove. No matter how many times I had the alignment check/fixed, it never drove perfectly straight again.

Personally, I think when you get in an accident the insurance should cover it and if fixed, they should pay you cash towards how much the car depreciated due to an accident on record. The point of insurance is to resotre the car back to origional, but if you are left with an unsellable or upside down loan because you can't get what the car is worth, did they really do you a big favor?

You can claim for diminished value, and yeah it's always ideal to scrap the car if you can. At least in his case the car will still drive straight. Just don't.... pull a marcus.... ayeeeeee...

sometimes i do wish they totalled my car, but it does still drive straight but doesnt always "feel" the same :/

I forget how. I think you can just argue that they should pay you diminished value as part of the claim. It definitely works when someone else runs into you, maybe not so much when a tree falls on it.
