so yeah for future reference, trying to launch a jeep leaves you with a driveshaft that looks like this

on my way back some altima was on my ass so i threw it in 3rd to pull away from him and it was just misfire city and i looked in my mirror and there's tons of smoke...tried 4th, same thing.....it seems like once i get to around 3.5 or 4k (under boost, i revved it to 7k no problem with no load) i just misfire and can't go any higher

James...get new wires. This is similar to what my car was doing. New plugs/wires, problems gone. When were the wires last done?

you really think smoke everywhere is from improperly gapped plugs? if it were an issue with plugs, more likely then not, it would have shown when we did you plugs weeks ago

Plugs wouldnt cause the smoke..but plugs/wires could cause some of the other things hes describing. The smoke is probably something completely different.

If it is a MAF check it but if i remember right that has a MAP.

Hmmmm... Could be the headgasket... Maybe broken piston rings? Hopefully that isn't it though. Who knows? Maybe its something really stupid that can easily be fixed.

i know i was seeing smoke like CRAZY when it was misfiring

the 1JZ is MAP

and i regapped the plugs today, some were WAY too small (couldn't even get the gapper in to see how big the gap was) and the biggest one was .035"...i don't know why they were so bad (i know steve gapped them but if he did them wrond it would've happened while i was test driving it)

gapped them to .028" and took it out for a test drive and pulled perfectly throughout the RPM range until fuel cut
