So... is it harassment if I call this woman after I e-mailed her yesterday and haven't gotten a response? I don't want to badger her!

If you called yesterday and left a message, they know you are interested. Now you just have to wait a few days before so you dont bother them.

Actually I think we called them slap bands.

You want to express interest without annoying her. A simple thank you letter after an interview and a final quick call maybe about 2 weeks later is about all you can really do.

I keep getting conflicting answers. I e-mailed her. I've been told to follow up with a phone call and/or another e-mail by the last 5 people I've asked, including people in charge of hiring. I think I will call her tomorrow and give up after that.

You have to think about it from the interviewer's perspective though. If they interviewed 50 candidates (which is possible for some positions, dont' know about the one you applied for), I'd get pissed off if everyone called me ;)

That said, if she's not calling you because you aren't getting the job, who gives a **** if you annoy her.

In this instance, if I was the interviewer, I'd realize it was my fault for promising to contact with either a 'yes' or a 'no' and suck it up.

I agree with Mark... being a hiring manager is a PITA right now. We get 100+ applications for everything we post. Most of them are just blasted from job boards and have nothing to do with that we are hiring for. The amount of time it takes just to root though them and see who is worth calling, then narrowing interviews is alot of work. While we are doing this, we are gettimg more applications.

I think a follow up in a day or 2 is a good thing, then a week later. I would def send a thank you letter to them. It is very professional and if they haven't made a decision or are on the fense, it may be the push you need.

Their job isn't to be nice, it is to get the job filled. Is it wrong they don't call you, yes! But there is nothing you can do about it so there is no reason to stress. Keep applying for jobs in the meantime.
