I have my reasons. Those of which do not concern you.

I've heard it suggested that those who choose not to own firearms should be taxed at a higher rate than firearm owners because it is their rejection of weapons and personal responsibility that causes the need for police. Interesting...

umm, WTF?!? So your reasons are none of my concern, but they trump the reasons of anyone who chooses to open carry?

Your reasons would indeed concern me if I wanted to open carry to the sonic meet. You said you'd cause a scene for absolutely no reason other than you don't like a particular behavior.

You either can't articulate your reasons or deep down inside you know they are unreasonable and conflict with facts and logic, so you choose to keep them to yourself.

If your reasons AGAINST carrying a gun openly don't concern anyone but yourself, how can someone else's reasons FOR carrying a gun openly concern you?

Negative, but that's why I wouldn't ever carry my weapons in a backpack. If it can fall out onto the highway, it can be removed from said backpack by someone other than you. That's scary. Is there a post over there? I haven't been on for a month or so.

that was an old post, probably a year or more by now. The guy zipped his pack up, instead of down, and the pack blew open while he was riding without him even realizing it.

Long story short, he found the gun mangled on the side of the highway and sent it back to the manufacturer (springfield maybe?) who refinished it and surprisingly sent it back in almost new condition.

Bad analogy. Seat belts are required for front-seat drivers and passagers.

Look, I don't have a problem with your decision to carry, it's your decision to have it out in the open that bothers me. If I don't know it's there, I'll be fine but don't let me see it and don't tell me it's there. I'm a little ****ing girl when it comes to it. I don't understand why anyone would find it necessary to OC at an event like this. There will be children, families and people like me who are just uncomfortable with it all over the place. Please have respect for everyone around. If you feel you need to have it on you, hide it.

I would really, REALLY stress that you, even if you never do it again in your life, go to a shooting range and fire a small caliber handgun. Before I knew how guns worked I thought they were pretty scary too. That's what happens when the only knowledge you have about firearms comes from the Brady campaign and hollywood. Once you understand how guns function, that they can't just "go off" and need a user with intent to operate them, I can assure you you won't have the irrational fear you have now. Whether or not you choose to reject firearms after that point is up to you, but being as afraid of firearms as you seem to be is simply not healthy.

Education is the key, ignorance leads to fear. Please do not be ignorant, or at least if you insist on not educating yourself, understand you are not qualified or knowledgeable enough on the topic of guns to offer an objective opinion on open carrying. I don't know a thing about brain surgery, therefore I would not offer an opinion or suggestion on specific brain surgery procedures because I wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about.

For those who are scared of people who open carry guns, you should just move to and stay in the state of NJ. You'll feel far safer there, but that'll just be a faux pas.

I'm not for banning guns, I'm for not carring them arround for no good reason. There is a reason police officers and people like that go through psych tests and special trainings that the average citizen does not. I served in the Army, I know what I need to know to handle a weapon, and I am not dumb enough to carry just for the sake of it.

Seatbelts are required by law so how does that compare?

and to answer your last question, try looking here:
http://www.thearmedcitizen.com/

If you honestly think there could never be a time in anyone's life that they might need a firearm, you sir, are the one who needs mental help. Isn't it interesting that when anti-gun people are threatened or in trouble, they call the police - because they have guns. How some people leave the protection of themselves and their loved ones to chance just blows my mind.
That very well may happen in my lifetime, but I'm not paranoid either. People that worried about stuff are the ones that usually fire out of panic and cause more damage then harm. Until someone has been trained, and even then there is no guarentee they will know what to do when the time comes. Huge difference between being in a controled range then when panic, adrenline, and an instant to react takes place.

I've heard it suggested that those who choose not to own firearms should be taxed at a higher rate than firearm owners because it is their rejection of weapons and personal responsibility that causes the need for police. Interesting...

Dumbest thing I've ever heard in my life. Sounds like you are just trying to justify it for peronal reasons rather then practility/need.
See my resonse in this.

I have a License To Carry my Firearm issued to me after an FBI background check. I have several firearms training sessions under my belt as well.

Whatever the case, I have no need to justify why I carry a firearm to anyone.

It's my personal choice to carry a firearm. It's your personal choice not to carry a firearm. /thread

I find this thread incredibly intriguing. I have, for the last couple years, strongly considered getting my handgun permit (which in NYS you have to have). Unlike PA (at least based on how it sounds), it's much more ****ing difficult to get one. Not only is there a background check but I also need to provide references, whom of which have a handgun permit.
