You missed my point. It wasn't the government itself I was referring to. It was the having many less "freedoms" to begin with compared to having some "freedoms" taken away.

Anyone wanna discuss Megan's Law or the Adam Walsh Law? Do you feel it's depriving the sexual offenders of freedoms or rights as a citizen?

I think...
Freedom in america has been replaced with debt and fear. We work everyday to pay outrageous taxes. We drive very carefully, not for safetys sake, but in fear of being pulled over. Oh and, about being searched for 'probable cause' such as a cop thinking he smells weed... I support a cops ability to use common sense, like if they see an explosive on the passenger seat, or see blood all over the car... These seem like decent probable cause. In these situations, there is the possibility of serious crimes being discovered, and can actually benefit the community. Smelling what they think could be pot, I think is bull****. There isn't a possible victim in that situation. There is no protecting and serving going on. At that point, it is nothing but abuse of power and harrassment. Search and seizure (which goes against the constitution) over a harmless substance that shouldn't be illegal in the first place, is pretty crazy. Searching because an officer thinks he smells pot is a huge waste of time and a waste our tax money. The topic of drunk stops... again, I think its a waste of time and money. I think its better for cops to patrol, and look for irradic or wreckless driving. Honestly, if someone is a little over the limit, but is driving carefully and safely home, there should be no reason to be given a DUI. If they are actually showing signs of drunk driving, a patrolling officer will spot it out and pull them over. A patrolling officer can also spot out wreckless driving in general, as well as keep an eye out around town. Drunk stops are a lazy way of checking for not only alcohol on the breath, but also inspection, registration, junior drivers out past curfew, suspended license.... So yea, I think drunk stops are stupid. |

I honestly think that megans law is total bull****... We don't make every criminal go around and knock on peoples doors and notifying them that they are law breakers... Be we think its ok cause it has to do with kids... Bull****. Your forcing these people to live as outcasts and be tormented their entire lives. If your going to make them do it, you have to make every crimial do it too then.

well they have to go around and notify that they are living near by and what address they live it.... how about having people that commited a crime in general, go around and tell people where they live and everything else....but since it involves children, people over look that, and generally are too ignorant to see the whole picture.

go on any website that has registered sex offenders.... their address's are on there.... Then its not hard to look up their name for their number. Well, i thought in New jersey, they had to go around and notify people them selves. But my point still stands. Why don't they have flyers for robbers go around. Why don't they have flyers for known drug dealers. Exactly.... because people thinks its fine because it involves kids. IF your gonna do something like that, I think you should make ALL criminals do the same. Im not arguing about whether or not these people aren't ****ed up at all, but for you to say that they are more ****ed up than someone who goes around pointing guns in peoples faces or someone selling drugs to your kids so they can get high and possibly OD, is just plain ignorant.

I understand your thought process on why other criminals don't have to be put into a registry, but I am going to have to argue that it is "right" to take extra steps to protect a minor. I'm not saying I agree w/Megan's laws, I am on both sides of the fence. Part of me thinks its good, part of me things its detrimental. Say the offender is truly rehabilitated. Should they still have the same negative connotations placed upon them? Studies also show that sex offenders, on average, have also been found more likely to be repeat offenders then criminals that have committed other crimes. This should factor in somehow. You, as a citizen of age, are responsible for you. Cover your own ass. You are cognizant of your surroundings and able to understand what is going on. You know not to leave your doors unlocked, or people might steal your stuff. You get the picture. A minor does not have the same situational awareness, nor should be expected to foresee everything they need to watch out for. Obviously parenting comes into play here as well... Where do you draw that line as to what is fair and unfair?
