That lawnmower looks like a 'Tim the Toolman Taylor' contraption from that old sitcom.

Exactly, like your old signature said. "I never thought I'd be driving a 4 door 4 cylinder car, look at me now"

... and you got wise my friend.

I remember reading COUNTLESS articles in Motor Trend, Road and Track, Car and Driver, EVO Magazine (European mag,) Sport Compact, about how the EVO/STI were being compared to Porsche and Ferrari. Porsche and Ferrari, how can this be? However, after every comparision test, the numbers always tell the true story. How the STI outbraked many of the exotics, how the EVO out-slalomed cars costing $100,000. I said, wow, these cars must be something.

Then I test drove both. I was simply astonished. Now I get it! You can never truely apreciate what has been writen about these cars until you experience them first hand. I drive my friend's 290whp WRX, I drive my mechanics soon to be 400whp STI, and I'm in the EVO daily. There are simply no other cars on the planet that do what these "little" cars do for the price. Even better... in Europe, there are faster versions of both (FQ340, FQ400, STI WR1.)

And then they get good gas milage, have low maintenance costs, easy to tune, can go 200,000 miles without a hitch, and can be had for $30,000. There're not the sexiest cars on the planet, however, if you don't have a spare Porsche to enter into the Gumball Rally, either one of these cars should do fine.

If you're one of those people out there that skoff at these Ferrari killing "rice burners," just take a test drive. The only thing you have to lose, is a habit of pre-judging a phenomenal car. ;)

Believe us... a world of automotive journalists and automotbile enthusiast across the glob cain't be wrong.

I agree! Except I get ~13mpg. My right foot's fault, though. Plus I MAY be running a bit rich. Hahaha. And I wouldn't confidently say 200k miles without a hitch. Have any of the most recent, US market cars gone close to that? Maybe if kept stock...

Anyway, who wants to spend $13k+ for teh gumball, join the AKA Rally - $3k, and just as much, if not more fun!

Shameless plug! www.akarally.com

My buddy ("wrx2" on NASIOC) and I are thinking about the AKA. The price went up a bit, however.

Shameless plug.

Yup, price went up, right with what you get out of it ;)

Included this year are:

Hotels
Breakfast/dinner each day
awards banquet in Key West
2 motorsports events
non-motorsports event
club parties
etc, etc

Trust me, with what we have planned, it's a bargain. Check out the final hotel:
