Small children who don't know how to act properly around animals are going to be a turn off for people looking to rescue dogs with some possible temperament/behavioral problems. No matter what the breed, some dogs are raised around abuse/neglect by their owners...and they aren't exactly little love bugs sometimes, but sometimes they are the sweetest things you'll ever meet. My only caveat was that not EVERY dog is the right one for EVERY home. But that applies to purebreds from breeders as well. Face it, there are some people who don't even deserve to have a house plant let alone a dog/cat/animal in general. That's all. I'm not hating on rescues. I thoroughly encourage rescue whenever possible. If you are able to take one in, PLEASE, PLEEEEASSE rescue! But if you don't, make sure the breeder you are buying from is REPUTABLE. Irresponsible, unethical breeders are half of the reason people are dumping their dogs in shelters. I could go on and on. But I won't. I get too angry talking about people who sell dogs for profit. ![]() Kaleb says omghaitoTST.

I totally agree with everything. I have a rescued 8yo French Bulldog that is aggressive with my family, strangers, other dogs...just about everything. If he was in any other home, they would have gotten rid of him by now. Take your time and find a dog that fits you-your situation, life, and family-either from a rescue or a reputable breeder.

Agreed, my only point was that not every family can handle a dog with problems. That is NOT to say that all shelter dogs have problems though. Rescuing animals is one of the most wonderful things that someone can do!

I have rescued a dog before, and would do it again. In this case, however, we are ready for a very specific type of dog which requires having and training him from day one (well, 6 weeks plus one). I suppose we would be willing to rescue a Dobe whose owner already had him in a training program and his situation changed and could no longer care for him... but again this is a very specific situation. In our case, for this dog in this particular situation, a puppy is the right choice.

ok we have a little problem over here...
my buddy 'rescued' this beautiful pitbull puppy. i understand he was from a breeder, and has a bunch of papers on it? anyway. he is completely beautiful, mostly white, with a small amount of brown patches. his name is marley. hes one of the best manored dogs ive ever met. hes totally happy, very playful, almost completely trained... i think he dropped a duece in the house like ONCE when he 1st moved in, and thats it. he responds well to commands, but ofcourse he is still a puppy, i think about a year old. my buddy decided he cant care for a dog right now, and needs to find a GOOD home to take him in. he lives in bridgeport. if anyone knows the right person, let me know asap. we dont want this dog getting into the wrong hands. hes seriously a great dog. he is the nicest, cutest, most well proportioned pit ive met. very playful too. best case scenario would be a dog lover with a huge back yard and lots of free time lol lemme know. thanks Last edited by frosti108; 10-18-2008 at 12:43 PM. |

Please, please please do not let it go to a pound or someone who fights them. Make sure he goes and checks out the persons house and stuff if someone takes him.

Here are some pit bull rescues:
Pit Bull Rescue Search Breed specific rescues usually work with mostly fosters.. so there's no risk of being euthanized if they can't find a home right away. People will usually take them into their own homes and house them until an adopter comes along. But if you can place them without using a shelter that's great too. Just make sure your friend is POSITIVE that they're a great home and he should pay for him to be neutered before he places him to prevent back yard breeders from getting their hands on potential breeding stock. Some shelters offer really cheap prices for a neutering.

Alot of positive people on there and you probably could find a home. If I had my own home I would take him to play with my other pitty. But yes, make sure whoever takes him makes sure not to be negative in training, always positive no matter what.
