yeah they were. i used to rock 16s in the winter and 17s in the summer. with the brembos i just put on i have to use 17s or bigger year round. i am going to use the stock sti wheels for now, but hopefully find something a little more unique to use. then i'll use the new wheels for the summer and probably keep the bbs for the winter.

as far as where its going next... most likely possibility is that it will be even more like an STi if anything ;). nothing is set in stone though so we'll see... the planning and organizing for this install, and the install itself was exhausting. i need a short vacation from working on my car to catch my breath before i make any more big moves.

If you have a FMIC and a scoop there is no point to the scoop. You actually theoretically loose pressure in the engine bay because there are 2 inlets. The absolute most ideal setup with a FMIC is a reverse scoop because it pulls it out. Then again there aren't many people who rock that.

actually they did some extensive testing on airflow and underhood temps and determined that the factory scoop is good for keeping underhood temps down, regardless of whether you have a tmic or fmic. the only thing better than that for a fmic setup is a reverse cowl toward the front of the hood, like on an evo or like my kaminari hood . this allows air to flow through the fmic and rad, and flow up and out the vent before hitting a wall that is the engine and being forced over or under it.
none of the reverse scoop inserts are very functional because they are located too far back on the hood, behind the engine.

whats real funny though is there was a guy on nasioc recently who posted a pic of his STi that had a reverse scoop, but he still had the stock TMIC. winnar!

yeah, i did make a collage. it was fun. what are you gonna do about it?

but to answer your question, i really have had a lot of wheels. what can i say, i like to mix it up.
1) stock 16x6.5
2) rota attacks 17x7.5 (recalled by rota)
3) painted stockers 16x6.5 (winter 2)
4) rota torques 17x8 free replacement for recall)
5) bbs rgr 17x7.5 (never made it on my car )
6) black steelies 16x6.5 (winter 3)
7) prodrive p1 17x7
8) prodrive p7 17x7
9) 2.5rs 6-spokes 16x7 (winter 4)
--5x114 conversion--
10) sti bbs silvers 17x8
11) jdm white spec arai 17x8 (never had em on the car though)
12) enkei rpf-1 17x8.5

haha yeah the quarter was a joke... a bill makes the lip look pitiful...

and they are 8.5 wide... the width of a wheel is measured from inside lip to inside lip... but total width is about 9.5 though.

Yeah they are a +40 offset which is dangerously low for a subaru . The extra width and lower offset will fill out the fenders real nice... which I'm excited about because its rare to really fill out the front fender of a wrx or sti sedan. Rear fenders will probably need to be rolled, but its all good. These wheels should stick out 20mm wider than the stock wheels do.
To explain why I went with a +40 when +45 is normally as low as subaru guys go... I converted to the stronger STi 5x114 hub which has a superior wheel bearing, I'm running coilovers with camber plates up front which are kicked in a bit to help offset the negative effects of the difference in scrub radius, +40 is the highest offset they make for the 17x8.5, and lastly I wanted to do something a little different
I talked to a few STi gurus and they all figured it should be fine... guys run super wide wheels with low offsets on the track and they put a lot more lateral load on their (5x114) wheel bearings without any issues.

I think you'll be fine with 40+. Like you said, there are some guys on NASIOC running 9"+ in crazy low offsets for a Subaru. You've probably researched it a ton by now anyway.

I like how light those are... 16 pounds for a 8.5" wheel is good stuff. And nice little studio photoshoot... I did the same thing with my wheels when I got them!

Honestly, you are going to have room with these wheels. They aren't as aggresive as you think.

My friends run 18x8.5 +45 with 15mm spacers dude, tucked!

It's all about fittin the fat tire. Roll the fenders, bang the fender wheels, coilovers so you don't have that fat spring.

You will be fine. I wish I went wider on the tire, but it only gives me time to upgrade. Running some fat ass R compounds on the street, holla at the kid!
