^^^holy **** man, i dont mean to be a dick, but in my lowly opinion, that HDR is over cooked. if you like that look, more power to you, however, if you are trying to get that evenly exposed look with HDR and have it not look so crazy, you either need to use different software, or if you are using photomatix, which i think you said you were, you need to take the first slider down quite a bit. i have had great success with HDR Photosuite. it makes global hdr changes, which means that it takes the whole shot in consideration when changing sliders and blends the image much better, giving a more natural, unprocessed look. it is not as drastic as photomatix pro, but for me, that is the point.

well, thank you, i appreciate it. photography is so subjective but i always say that, if it makes you happy and lives up to your expectations, that is all that matters!

on another note, i took it upon myself to do and IR conversion on my nikon d80. i decided, for several reasons, that i wanted to do it the right way, which involves taking the camera apart, removing the hot filter, and replacing it with an IR filter...a daunting task, especially for someone like me who has sausage fingers. i started this by buying a hoya r72 IR screw on type filter. i was fortunate enough to randomly find a place in reading that makes filters for movie cameras, and to meet the president of the company, who himself is an amateur photographer. so he was nice enough to offer his 50,000 dollar, garnet and water cutter in order to cut the round filter to the square format that i needed. he only charged me 20 bucks, and the 30 i paid for the filter makes this conversion a grand total of 50 bucks....how could i go wrong! i did the conversion tonight and obviously havent been able to try it out yet other than in my room, but that was just to make sure that i successfully reconnected those stubborn, tiny ribbon cables and put it all back together properly. so far so good. i cant wait to give it a shot and see how it turns out. unfortunately, i have to go out of town for business tomorrow and i dont think ill have time to try it out. but i think ill take it along...after all, who doesnt have enough time to stop and take a photo or two right?!

I tried the tilt shift look on this old photo. It fooled my dad so, it must look at least decent haha. I did this in CS5.

are you kidding me bro? haha Ive been on a IR research journey myself for the last month. going to make moves with it but its winter and if I were to do scapes, I have a feeling they wouldnt be as beautiful as spring. I almost bought that same filter. I wanted to get an xti and convert it myself but I want to look into it even more first. im fascinated with IR. Ive found some links that make interest you if you feel like doing some IR reading.

^^^sure man, im interested. im always interested in learning and reading. i may have some stuff that you would like to read as well. can you email me your stuff and ill respond with my stuff. and i know what you mean about doing IR in the winter, but i figured that i could use the time as a learning curve. also, im sure i can find some places that will still work. if there is something that i cant help you out with, let me know. obviously i cant help you take apart a canon as i dont know **** about them. good luck, perhaps we can go out shooting IR stuff together when you get it done.

personally i cant be stuck with primes. in fact, over the past five years, i have only kept one prime in my arsenal, and i dont even use it very much. i dont know what i would do without my 24-70 2.8. i think if i had to pick one lens, it would be that. it helps that it is tack sharp, extremely fast focus, and built like a tank. in fact, i rented that lens to take to china on vacation, and i can only think of two times that i took it off the camera. then again, all of this is subjective and depends much on what exactly you shoot. i think the only time that i use the only prime i have, the 50 1.8, is with my daughter.

self promotional shot from the philly auto show.....my sheet metal work.....

Oh ok I think the 17-55 lens on a crop camera is equivalent to the 24-70 2.8 on full frame... I have. 50 mm 1.8 now n I like it but would like a wider prime.. What camera do u shoot with?
