car culture varies, i think thats what makes our hobby the best. i really see where your coming from, but being able to afford things has little to do with it besides jealousy or envy, in those cases hate is blind, but with most cases people generally have an idea of what style suits them and are firm upon their stance. (<i see what i did there) yeah i cant stand the whole stanced thing, thats not because i cant afford/understand the style its because i think it looks like poopy. IMO i love japanese cars (hate euros), its not really them that im against its more the style. speaking of that style, the suspension dynamics and work that goes into it does really interest me alot.

Stock body to stock body, some FC's look better than some FD's.

Aero-ed out, all bets are off.

The reason that the Ty/Cy was discontinued was because it was wiping the floor with Vettes stock for stock and the big wigs at GM were a bit miffed.

Correct.

Also, same reason the Fiero didn't come with a V8 as originally planned. One of my old teachers has pictures of him driving a prototype V8 Fiero when he worked for Delco/Delphi and apparently the car was spanking Corvettes...

That post smells like.........bias.

Also running in the dark = no good. Crappy sidewalk + no lighting = rolled ankle. That wasn't the worse part. Having to walk back on it was.

To be honest, you didn't need much to spank a Corvette in the early 90s.

But then again, I only really like modern American cars. I only really like C5/C6 Vettes, honestly. Most American cars don't do it for me. I'm a skinny mother****er, and most American cars are built for people that are... well, not me.

On the subject of style/performance/whatever,

Ideally, I'd have both. For a daily driver, style is really the only important thing, but in a weekend car I've got to have performance. I just love the feeling of driving a car that performs well.

I get when people dump money into their cars to make them look nice. That's cool.

What I don't get is when people spend thousands of dollars on trash that makes their car worse (performance wise). Or when people do things that just make no sense. Take the legions of turbo sedan owners who slap parts on without a tune and then post up about how fast their cars are.

Or, alternatively, take people who buy ****ty coilovers that are worse than stock. I mean, I understand slamming your car is the new rage, but why is it such a trend to buy parts made out of tin cans and dreams?

None of these things impact my life, and I don't lose sleep when I read about people doing them, but when the subject comes up, I will always speak my mind, because internet.

Also, I saw something about the 370z on the last page. I'd just like to comment that 370s are actually really cheap cars to daily. My insurance is cheaper than a WRX owner's, I get decent (22/25 mpg) gas mileage, it doesn't have any major reliability issues, and unless you are going the FI route, the modding scene isn't really expensive. Also it looks awesome stock, so while you might grab some wheels, you probably won't be tempted to spend thousands of JDM bull****.

edit: THAT EVO WAGON IS ****ING AWESOME.

Yeah some parts are cheap, but if people look hard enough theres gold to be found. I paid 240 shipped to my house for my exhaust on my car, and no one would be able to tell. Its a full turbo back with a single muffler on the down pipe, the routing was great, its full stainless steal, and machine (stainless) welded. I can see bashing cheap, but theres something cool about saying yeah i did X with only X amount of $s invested.

mitsubishi should bring the colt back... to america. n not the vagina enthused one they have now (and i know rendering, but its still bad assed)

... this is the best looking car mitsubishi has ever made... i doubt theyll ever surpass this either. Evo 5 just looks ANGRY (probably because mitsubishi is about to make its great great great great grandson a hybrid)

DaBomb, Japan isn't digressing, they're continuing to move forward with more effecient designs.

The VQ series of engines is substantially more efficient NA than the VG was with a turbo.

Food for thought.

id hope so after 10+ years lol. everything is more effecient now, but you could make close to 500 on simple mods in the VG. making 500 in a VQ has to be way more expensive because of the n/a limitation. effeciency only goes so far as the cars displacement. i kinda compare it to honda motors. in the 90s they were ~180 stock in japan 10+ years later theyve made only ~40hp more. but that is not apropriated to effeciency (maybe a little bit) but theyve jumped .6 litres from a 1.8 standard to 2.4s now.

3.0 L (2960 cc) VG30DETT produces 300 hp F/I
3.5 L (3498 cc) VQ35DE produces 300hp N/A

displacement .5l ~ T22 turbos on stock boost levels

i would almost argue that japan is going N/A for fuel economy/$ savings, but for the most part needs bigger engines because of the demanded weight in cars, theres no 2,400 pound hondas anymore. They are almost taking after the muscle car ideal for their performance cars. Subaru gets bigger turbos every other year, just jumped to 2.5l standard, toyota doesnt even care about performance unless its their new miata, mazda went from 2.0 turbo (90s) to 2.3 bigger turbo, but the rx-8 is N/A with more displacement along with their full line up. nissan went away from FI (besides the skyline) but went to bigger displacement motors, and mitsubishi didnt follow suit with the evo they stayed 2.0 but just put in bigger turbos, they did (tried to) with the eclipse making it a v6 but that car blew.

Just to note, my comment was more directed at people doing things poorly, not for cheap. For cheap is good! That's engineer style.
