Download the trial and see for yourself. I can tell you all day long that it's what Vista was intended to be, and what it should have been, but you really gotta try it to believe me!

so, i got my windows 7 today. says it's an updater for vista. I assume there will be no issues registering the windows 7 on my machine with this? I also assume i can run the updater cd w/ no issues? i am running windows 7 rc. can anyone confirm there won't be a problem?

I bought into that student copy 30 dollar upgrade deal. Did a clean install. When I tried activating it told me that I can't use upgrade keys for clean installs

Fortunately the workaround is pretty simple...

Oh is that student version supposed to be an upgrade only? I was under the impression that it was a full version for clean installs.

xp sucked as bad as vista did when it came out. it was not compatible with a lot of things and had its own share of issues, however there was not bad press associated with it, so they just kept selling it and releasing service packs.

OSX doesnt hide the fact that all of its versions are just updates to the same os. thats why they are all called OSX (OS 10).
Calling it Vista2 is definitely not accurate nor does it make much sense. This is a significantly different OS. Yes, some visuals look the same as Vista, but that doesn't make it a Vista2.
Aside from the obvious features like the taskbar and organizational changes, this OS was written so that it can run on just about any computer, unlike Vista. W7 is very resource friendly. At my company, we have installed and tested it on 1Ghz fanless CPUs and it runs like a champ. Not happening with Vista.

Also, read some articles about W7 graphic enhancements and DWM.

I'd have to disagree about XP sucking when it 1st came out. Yeah it had it's problems, but just like Vista, 75% of the problems were because idiots who didn't meet the minimum requirements still felt the need to install the OS anyways, then they had problems, and bitched about it.

I ran Vista 32bit on one computer and X64 on my laptop since it 1st came out, and never had more then minor hiccups.

i'm pretty sure W7 is considerably more stable than previous windows os releases (or prereleases as the case is currently)

Yes it's very stable. Even in it's current release. I'm currently running a retail version of Ultimate and I have had absolutely NO issues.

Its based on the same kernel(the heart of the os) and Aero interface as vista, except it has a lot of tweaks and bugfixes that are specific to windows 7. But the basic architecture is that of vista. Same way that windows xp is really based on windows 2000.
The fact that its more resource friendly comes from the tweaks that were done to the kernel. However instead of just offering those tweaks in a service pack, they made it into a whole new OS.

The reason why window7 is so good is because for once, they didn't try to rewrite the whole OS from the ground up, nor did they make any major changes. They just simply kept what they had and focused on optimizing it and fixing all the things that people complained about with vista.

Im not trying to imply that windows7 is the same OS as vista. Its not. One is bloated, and the other is tuned. However windows 7 is not a complete rewrite of major components of the operating system like vista originally was. Thats why all current vista drivers work perfectly with windows 7.

Well I found one thing that really sucks about windows7. The new Movie Maker. They tried to make it simpler and just ended up making it almost impossible to do anything with.
