yea i'd say get the f2.8 over the 4 too. girls volleyball is fun to shoot too but i dont think that f4 will be fast enough in most gyms because the lighting sucks. i shot volleyball last week and had to use iso 3200 when i used the 70-200 f2.8 and iso 1600 with my 85L

85L @ f2 1/400 iso 1600

and with the 70-200 f2.8 1/320 iso 3200

im most likely not going to be doing volleyball, but i will be doing basketball in the future. as it is right now, i cannot afford the F2.8 because of paying for school, books, gas, food, etc. otherwise I'd spring for it. For the time being, i'll be outdoors so the lighting should be sufficient, even at night to accomplish my goals. at least i hope.

you can find used 70-200 f2.8's for less then a new f4 IS if you were buying that new. i sold my 70-200 a couple months ago for only 975 or something

if you went with the f2.8 don't get the IS version, and that should make it a bit more economical.

your arms will grow stronger in time young grasshopper

maybe try renting one at f4 IS and then also f2.8 non-IS... probably the best way to find out what you need/want.

ha my arms are plenty strong, thats not the issue. the issue is just me being extra shaky sometimes. im gonna go ahead and figure that the IS will really only come into play in low light situations and I wont be in many of those. i did actually send my 200mm prime back today so im lensless and needing something asap

It's only 4 pages.

200mm, hand holdable down to 1/15-1/30 with IS. No major explanation needed.

at this point its a compromise between either the IS or the extra stop. which is more important, and dont say both

For what you shoot, max aperture > IS since IS won't stop motion blur.

If you shoot more static objects, IS > larger max aperture
If you shoot non-static objects, larger max aperture > IS

i just sit here and read all this.. makes no sense to me. i just really want to take pictures of cars with a camera if i ever get one. i have a trashy P.A.S. camera. i wouldn't mind upgrading, but i feel for the reason of getting it, and not the actual "photography" side of it is kinda pointless to drop 500-700 on a camera for me lol.
