I am not saying i am going to show my weapon at the drop of the hat but given a threatening situation and feeling my life is in danger i am much less likely to be worried about being charged with brandishing.
I would have to say that situation would fit the requirements for use of deadly force in self defense. I'm more talking about the Clint Eastwood wanna bes who would respond to a single shady individual demanding their cash by saying "I have a gun", instead of tossing the money one way, and hauling srt4-driver in the other direction.

The former was NEEDED but the later was stupid.
Ill try to find you guys when you are over 35 and see if you are still carrying religiously.

true, fighting like a man has nothing to do with carrying. Its pretty much a life or death situation at that point.
I had originally gotton my CCW permit because i was delivering Pizza. Most nights by 10 or 11 o clock i had almost a thousand dollars on me, that wasn't mine, and you never know.

I have pulled my gun once.

We were at Del Mar Pizza catching some late dinner, and some teenager came running in yelling about a stickup, gun sidewayz and all. I pulled my .357 and the owner pulled a streetsweeper. Turned out he was friends with a girl that worked there and it was a BB gun. oh, and I think he pissed himself.

"Homicide is tied to a willingness to resort to violence, not the mere presence of guns."

I'm getting a real kick out of Mayor Street's plan to clean up guns in the city. Sylvester Johnson (police chief) and the mayor are in front of several tables of guns of all types, having had people turn them in to the city in exchange for a $200 Visa gift card....where'd that money come from? Must have given out $30-40k in gift cards with all the guns I saw on Channel 3 news.

Now....they later find out that over half the guns were registered, but stolen by the person who turned them in, and the rest were 20-30 year old non-operational pieces of crap...not worth $10.

Let's see, I can take my old .410 shotgun that's missing part of the hammer assembly, turn it in, and get $200? I'm in!

What did this measure to to slow or stop crime in Philly? Absolutely nothing, but it looks good on TV, gets politicians re-elected, and makes for good ratings and warm, fuzzy feelings all around.

Still, the next day, I'm sure some little 8 year old kid, walking home from school will get shot in the crossfire between drug dealers....didn't those drug dealers know they could have turned in their guns for a Visa gift card? What's wrong with them??

i'm not a huge gun fan, but i don't hate them either.
the real problem is the black market, where guns are sold for 3-4 times their normal price since they are not traceable.

I don't know where your black market is, but i can go get a handgun right now for 25 bucks if i wanted. it may have a few bodies on it. but it sure isn't 3-4 times it's value.

I guess if your thinking HUGE deals like arms dealing then maybe unregistered guns would go for more not less.

Too much TV watching - the "black market" is for secret squirrel military arms, not a .32 auto that Jo Jo uses to cap Ray Ray.

But Law & Order told me so

A very common fraud is to have someone who can legally buy a firearm (wife/gf/babymomma) purchase said firearm for you. A group was busted doing so at the Army/Navy store in Whitehall, PA not that long ago. The gun store I go to has a copy of the article in the glass case with a simple "Don't even think about trying this here" note by it.

See, I dunno if i'd be in that Eastwood wanna be club. I was nearly carjacked a year ago, and yes, I wish I had a gun. When I walk to houses around school, god I wish I had a gun. But would I shoot it? Especially at an area of the body that would kill them? That's a question that I can not answer- and IMO, none of you could either.

i would just like to add that the people woh legally purchase and carry weapons are generally not the ones you hear about on the news. the crimes taht are commited are by people who do not have a permit to carry or bought it legally.

I don't care who you are, that ****'s funny!

Oh, and for the record, I own a couple of guns but have no desire to carry. I probably should in some circumstances, but I just don't. That's what makes it a good choice. If you want to, go for it. If you don't, well, don't. But there are thousands of examples where CCW's have saved lives, that's indisputable.

Let me tell you something the criminals in this world have guns and they are willing to use them just watch the news. Ok and to adress carrying it all of the time its gonna suck when you leave it at home and that is the one day that you need it. And if you think of this as a cool thing you are sorely wrong.
Ok so when ur in your car and someone has a gun in your face you're going to be able to get yours out quick enough to get a shot off before he puts one in you? Then what happens if the other persons gun isnt loaded, you know this court system will put you at blame. And like someone else said, evening the playing field will only raise the stakes.

I agree with what Dave said earlier, basically if there was some type of gun ban, it would only hurt registered owners, not criminals who use them illegally everyday

Actually if i didn't know the gun wasn't loaded then the blame doesn't fall on me. If to the best of my knowledge i thought the gun was loaded i would be justified, to the best of my knowledge.

See, u take offense way too easily. Its ok ill stop trying to joke with you now. However, if I had nothing to contribute then why did you feel the need to state a rebuttal to what i said. Either way, I don't believe in carrying a gun around all the time for protection.

I also agree with what dave said that a gun ban will only hurt registered users, and thats ashame. No matter what the criminals are always going to get their hands on weapons. However, to walk around always worried one is going to attack you is, IMO, pointless.

I just read a news article about gun trafficking, and how that plays an important role in crime.

I think I should be allowed to have a gun to protect my house and my property. But I dont find that I need to be strapped daily.

I have 2 best friends one is a cop and the others brother owns evolution guns in Quakertown.

"Then what happens if the other persons gun isnt loaded, you know this court system will put you at blame."

You guys should really quit trying to be lawyers and CSI troops, you're not very good at it. If someone puts a gun in your face, I don't care if it's a BB pistol...if you can't tell that it's loaded or not, and you draw and fire, you're not to blame.

Are you seriously insinuating that someone should require you to have x-ray eyes and see into a magazine to see if there are rounds there or not? Or in a moment's notice, from 20 yards away, tell if a weapon that LOOKS like a .45 auto pistol has a .45 hole in the front, or a .177 (pellet gun)?

Sorry, if you pull your Wal-Mart special pellet gun on me, I'll be using my Cabela's Ruger S345 without examining your weapon for barrel diameter.

Again, lay off the barracks lawyer stuff, it ain't working - try just discussing your position and feelings on the subject - can't go wrong there.

On a side note, my Walther CP99 pellet gun is designed to the EXACT dimensions (as well as weight) as the real Walther P99, which is fortunately, NOT a pellet gun. (from the peanut gallery)
