Im really curious in how you have these mounted if you dont have a cage.

What was said about crushing your spine if you dont have a cage is untrue, but you CAN crush your spine if you mount them downwards at a 45 degree angle to your rear belts, or bolt them to the floor.

If you have your normal seatbelts, and the takatas in the car, thats going to look really stupid.

If you took your oem seatbelts out and just have the takatas, I'd fail you for state inspection in a heartbeat.

I'm pretty sure he's getting a harness bar. At least I hope he is.

on the WRX the belts can be mounted using a harness bar like I have done, or you can run the shoulder straps to the rear seatbelt anchor points. the angle they end up at is within acceptable parameters for safety standards.

How is it untrue? If the car flips, and the roof caves in, and you can't lean to the side because of the harness, something is going to get crushed and it could possibly be your spine.

I just know that a lot of instructors for things like NASA HPDE's and stuff like that wouldn't ride in cars with harnesses but no cage because of the extra risk that was accompanied with something like this. But with a hard parking car, I guess it's not that much of a concern.

Look at the picture Fred posted, that's exactly how I will have mine. I have the long version Takata's which come with (8) eye hooks which thread into your factory seatbelt holes where the harness then connects into. As for the comments about being ugly with stock seatbelts and what not, have you seen any cars with harnesses? They all still retain their stock seatbelts because what are you supposed to do without them? If you take them out you will have huge holes in the b-pillers so in my eyes I think it will look cleaner with them there. Inspection? haha I don't care about inspection because I will just buy a sticker for $100, so that's not an issue.

I am not worried about breaking my spine or getting hurt because I don't plan on wearing the harness. It's there for the seats because who rocks Brides without Takata's? I mean if someone comes on here and says well if I had them I would wear them, I might laugh because what's the reason for having them on the passenger side then? Do you really need the passenger to have a harness as well? Exactly....

It's a street car with some jdm flavor to it, that's it. I drive it to school and to meets, that's it. I'm not going to take 5 mins to strap in my harness to drive to school because to me it's a waste. That's my views, whether you like it or not I don't care.

Nope, no harness bar. I have long versions which are not compatable with the harness bar. Please refer to the illustration posted by wkderf for how I will be mounting my harnesses.

I am sure that those are your dream seats and harnesses so I will let you sit in them at a meet, maybe.

Okay guys seriously, here is the bottom line on using 4/5/6 point harnesses without a cage

Yes, it's more dangerous than using the stock seatbelts, and yes in a rollover there is a good chance it's going to **** you up

No, it doesn't really make a huge difference, if you roll over, you're probably going to get ****ed up regardless

I have only resonded to 2 accidents were drivers/or passangers were using race harnesses, neither had a cage

the first one was in an accord, i can't remember exactly, but i'm pretty sure he had them secured by bolting the front straps to the floor and using the backseat for the top straps; did they help? no. would a regular seatbelt have been better? probably, but he walked away from the crash with just a broken collar bone ( btw this was a kid racing on the highway and they figure he was in excess of 100 when he lost control )

second was a rollover in an s2000, driver died but would have probably died regardless

using them without a rollcage is really pointless, but probably not going to due any harm. I think it's rice to use them when they arn't needed, but who cares? if he wants them, cool, enjoy them and post up some pics when you get them in

I was trying to be nice about it, but I mean come on... You're using them for no other purpose than aesthetic appeal, they have no performance value, that's pretty much the definition of rice :P

haha. You act like the harnesses won't work. I find everything your saying amusing and what your calling rice considering what vehicle you own.

Don't sit here and say anything on my car is rice because look at my garage. I bet you cannot find 1 single part that could even be considered rice....

Like I said, they aren't for everyone. If you don't like them I am sure there is a reason why but oh well, not something I am concerned about.

Who came at who? Exactly.

You said something about my car when I hadn't said anything, so if I return with something negative you should expect it. It's my car and I will build it the way I want, plain and simple.

If you didn't start this then we wouldn't have this problem...

I actually defended you getting the takata belts, personally i think they look ****ing hot ( I like sparco better though ) but they're ricey in most applications, take that how you want; I have a seibon VSII hood, that 50lbs isn't going to make any real difference, I got it for looks, that's rice too.. a little rice isn't always a bad thing

Dude I understand all of that but you made it seem like I was being rice for getting them. I took it the wrong way and it went way downhill from there. As you can see I am on the edge with everything said because I haven't had my car on the road for months and people are getting to me lol. I've spent sooo much money on this car and for people to make comments about it makes me mad, sorry for taking it the entire wrong way.
