Ive been hesitating to install the VWR springs on my car despite all of the positive reviews due to a fear over loss of bump travel.

In the meantime, I'm gonna put the rear swaybar on. If I don't go the VWR springs route, I'll go with my original plan of the non-adjustable PSS coilovers.

Sold the VWR springs and am picking up PSS coilovers tomorrow.

Will install with rear swaybar and post impressions.

Happy to get a sorted bit of kit for the car.

Installed the rear swaybar a couple weekends ago. Also installed the superpro endlinks. Everything fit perfectly, but had some clunking, so I took it next door to the P-car shop (they're big VW fans too) and they loaded the suspension and tightened everything down so i could quickly get onto my labor day road trip.

The bar definitely helps with turn-in, but isn't as good of a match with the stock tires, stock dampers and spring rates as the internet leads you to believe. I increased the psi in my tires up to the VW-recommended 37psi in order to increase stiffness a little bit. That seemed to take away some of the mis-match feel out back, but the car could use stiffer dampers and spring rate to really get more out of it (IMO).

Also, I believe I've fixed the clutch delay issue without removing the restrictor. All it took was 5 seconds of my time and the removal of the assist spring at the clutch pedal itself. This has really cleaned up the engagement point and the clutch now acts more like every other manual car I've driven. The pressure is still lighter than the 911, but its no longer lacking precision or falling behind my foot as much as before.

Finally, I've ordered a VW Racing turbo inlet that'll increase the diameter of the piping mounted on the turbocharger itself. It'll pair up nicely with the turbo inlet pipe I got for $50 and the K&N that the car already has. Should improve throttle response and boost threshold.

Other than that, not much to report. I'll be detailing the car this weekend in prep for the upcoming winter months. 34mpg steady.

Hmm. I'm a bit surprised by the comments on the rear bar. I thought that was one of the softer rear bars? Also, not surprised at the same time. Internet people are stupid.

The clutch assist spring is a big mod on the BRZ/FR-S for the same reason. Easy and gets rid of the super mushy pedal problem.

VW Racing turbo inlet sounds neat. I'm going to have to look that up.

mpg is impressive. want to donate some to me?

Yeah, it's one of the smaller bars. it's a hollow 25mm. There's a 24mm out there and i think a 23mm, but not sure if they're hollow or not.

I'll get used to it, the turn-in benefit is definitely there. Less roll in a turn too, but shocks would go a long way here.

Really? I wonder why these are starting to be used. It's a very small difference in pedal pressure, but a large difference in engagement. I can definitely chirp the tires now. (just answered my own question.)

It's funny to me how far turbocharged 4 cylinder engines have come since I started modifying my first gen DSM. The way this car drives off the showroom floor is better than any tuned DSM I had, it's faster than the 14b car and it's much more efficient and reliable. The smoothness of boost onset is really incredible too, something that my 2005 STi was horrible with on the factory tune.

Haha, sure!

I was just chatting with my father tonight about how far car performance has come. A simple tune on a lot of these modern turbo 4 bangers puts you at the same power level as his blueprinted Boss 302... Nutty!

So much for not modding the GTI, eh?

The pedal thing is for all the wimps that complain about pedal stiffness. So many modded DSMs and such had TERRIBLE pedal pressure compared to any modern car, lol

Haha so true...an ACT 2600 could break ankles, haha

GTI is getting a nip tuck...still undecided on direction to go with my cars, just going to drive them until i can figure out what to do.

Here's the stupid clutch spring after 5 seconds of work:

Here's the VW Racing Turbo Inlet (check the welds):

Yeah, the build quality is pretty nice.

foolinaround - definitely take it out, you won't miss it once it's gone.

I have some friends from PA in town this weekend, so my car work is put on pause. I was really looking forward to putting this part on the GTI this weekend along with the turbo inlet tube but it'll have to wait.

Installed both the VWR turbo inlet pipe as well as the ECS tuning silicone turbo pipe.

Pretty easy install overall, I did a brief check for leaks and short romp through the empty upper garage level.

Seems to have worked at shortening the throttle delay before the turbo kicks in. Will test it out more, so far it's been the best powertrain mod yet

You also haven't done a tune (yet?) ;) I'd not be surprised if that helps performance, gets rid of restrictive factory crap.

Haha nope not yet. It requires a clutch upgrade to support the torque first.

Yup. Will only matter more once the tune gets applied.

More driving time with the inlet. Unlike with my old STi and putting a turbo inlet on the EJ257, with the VW EA888, the difference is pretty significant. At low RPMs, there is definite improvement in boost onset and throttle response is smoothed out a tad now. Big fan of this mod. It gets into boost quicker and makes the throttle more responsive overall.

I'm surprised it's that noticeable with the factory tune. Any extra intake noise with the elbow on there?
