not really unfortunately, I'm kind of stuck waiting on figuring out how to modify this intake manifold, i can either pay someone 5-600$ to do it, or i could buy the eastwood tig welder and do it myself. i always wanted to learn to tig but it is pretty pricey to just try and do it yourself. schools also been keeping me busy and being in the middle of switching jobs is leaving me a tad broke at the moment. but there should be updates sometime with in the next week or so, thanks for reading, i havnt given up, just stuck at the moment. edit: actually i did pick up a sweet beater, its a 2001 kia rio, i got it for basically nothing because my boss was given it by the insurance company to cover storage fees, he began to fix it one winter, got busy and pushed it aside and told me i could have it if i got it out of his parking lot. it had a fresh paint on it and just needed tires, an alignment a front bumper and headlights.cost me about 600$ to get it back on the road. i finished it up and it seems to run good 25mpg at wot lol! I've had it for about 2000 miles now maybe ill post some pics up for fun

wow its been too long, i need to get my butt in gear..... regardless i finally had a few hours to tinker with the car. I've been struggling with getting the engine to fit and the intake to clear the steering shaft. I'm not sure why i didn't just do this in the first place and the first thing that comes to mind K.I.S.S.- keep it simple STUPID! in this case I'm the one who was a little on the stupid side, why i thought i needed to modify the intake to make it fit when all i had to do is raise the engine and trans 2 inches ill never know, the important thing is i figured it out the easy way and saved myself about 1000$ ill have to make new mounts and redo a few other things which is no big deal. enough with the blabbering. on with pics
how it sits, looks almost the same ![]() LOOK AT THAT! IT CLEARS! finally! ![]() just a look from the front ![]() how i raised it, keeping it simple....stupid ![]() got the hood on to make sure it still fit correctly, finally got to see it in full body form ![]() and the whole car in its "little" corner today finally got me back into it and motivated ![]() ![]() |

wow its been almost a month since I've been able to work on this, with working 30hrs a week and school for 20+ I've had almost no time to even look at this thing, but now my engine, and chassis/suspension class ended, i only have brake systems class til 10am, and don't work to 2:30 most days, and this past week I've been going for my PA state inspection license, so i had the whole week off, so from 10:30am to 5pm I've been busting my butt. any way.............
ENGINE MOUNTS ARE DONE!!!!!!!!! well kind of, i only have a flux core welder and although the welds are strong and support the engine i still will be taking the car back to the body shop in which i worked to weld in supports as well as pass over and weld the back side of what i have done. but its in there good and should absorb the vibrations since they are rubber insert mounts. still need re tweak the factory trans mount since the trans is slightly angled downward, not much maybe a few degrees but it should be taken up in the driveshaft since its 2 pieces, time will tell, I've been researching mega squirt and thats the route i think I'm going to go with, its cheap and it will get me the most power out of the stock engine for the cheapest. i want 200whp, and right now this engine does about 168 stock on 7psi, so I'm hoping to turn the boost up to about 12 or 14, the turbo is capable and it should put me where i want to be. anyways on with the pictures, driver side ![]() passenger side ![]() i also took my valve cover off to start inspecting the engine for rebuilding it, it appears i may not need to, the cam and the followers are in like new condition, i still am going to at least pull the head to look at the cylinders and valves since i still have no idea how many miles are on this engine, but it appears that it either had low miles, or had recent head work done, or was just REALLY well taken care of, the donor car was beat up on the right rear qp that could have been from an accident *crosses fingers* but also could be from the easy pull guys ****ing it up with the forklift. any way heres what the valve train looks like ![]() and had the turbo off to weld the mounts, it too seems to be in great shape, i wanna drop it off at fuel injection and have them look at it, if its no good I'm gonna put a 30R on it ;) baby turbo ![]() Last edited by rocknrace03; 11-11-2011 at 02:23 PM. |

new parts on the way, just dropped waaaay too much money,I'm just gonna keep telling myself its my birthday gift to myself
first up was a mishimoto performance radiator, its 2.5 inch thick normally for a honda civic si, i figure with the optional fan shroud kit ill buy for it later it will be more then enough to cool the engine ![]() next i needed to change my brakes to manual because the booster no longer fits i went with dual wilwood 3/4 bore master cylinders and a jegs 7.0:1 ratio brake pedal, the stock master cylinder was 7/8 bore with a 4:1 pedal ratio, the new setup should be more then sufficient to slow the car even at fairly high speeds ![]() |

awesome, would love to get my hands on that windshield, mine has a previously repaired chip in, which isn't a big deal but i feel like if the rest of the car is perfect and that flaw is there its gonna be an eyesore, but for the moment i just need to concentrate on getting this thing running. but thanks for the heads up!
since I'm here, right now I've been working on getting the master cylinders mounted. the radiator is in, all thats left is the alternator after that, and then i can clean up the bay and rebuild the engine and have that painted, and hopefully get it at least idling by spring. i just invested in tools, which ill need for the rest of my life. snap on tech starter set and a 40" 13 drawer box. so for the next 3 years i owe them a 100$ every month, but if i would have waited it would cost me 65% more.... so compared to finishing a car, something that helps me make money to spend on this is worth it |

If you need anything you should probably get it quick. I doubt it will be there more than 3 weeks.

update time yay! have been spending quite a good deal of time planning things out and trying to get things to fit, cut a big ol hole in the floor to try and get my master cylinders in but turns out it just won't work, one would be in the wheel well and the other in the engine bay, but so far down that any type of brake fluid related nonsense would suck! one thing i hate more then anything is poorly designed car parts, and if i can help it, anything i make will be simple. so i bought this:
![]() remote dual piston master cylinder, uses reservoirs that are connected to the master cylinder with a hose, so the MC can be down in the problem area while the topping off the fluid area can be easy to access. and was at the junk yard the other day for my dd and dads car so i picked this up ![]() factory alternator, my engine was robbed of its from someone else, once the brakes and alternator get mounted ill be finished tabbing the engine bay up and i can begin to shave the bay and get it all nice and painted and work on the engine running!!!! =] my goal is to have it drivable to the sonic meet in may! and in other news santa brought me some early christmas presents for the hard working guy i am ![]() ![]() i don't have to be at work til 230pm tomorrow, so I'm hoping to get in some solid car time, hope to have everything mocked up by lunch time, that way on monday i have all day to tear down! finally got out to the junk yard today to get my missing bracket for the alternator,i think it marks my last trip, waaaay too cold out.
then i mounted it, even got a belt on that i had laying around, just need to make it slightly adjustable to tighten it up ![]() and now I'm just trying to put these 3 together so i can finnish my brakes ![]() really close to being able to tear this puppy down, and get the bay shaved and painted. also talked to the ex boss (body shop where i used to work at before switching to mechanical work) he said as soon as I'm ready to drop her off for paint i can. good to know he's willing to take on a restoration mid summer, because they do flawless work! so excited, must work faster! ninja edit, what i want the car to look like, not sure on wheels, first time photo shop, be gentile =p ![]() Last edited by rocknrace03; 01-02-2012 at 10:44 PM. |

big update, mock up is complete! the girlfriend was with her friends tonight so i made use of my time after work, now on my next day off i can get the engine out and rebuild it and paint everything up real nice. yesterday i spent my day wiring up our new compressor. yes its from harbor freight, but our old one lasted 2.5 years and worked great, this was a free replacement/upgrade under warranty. 60 gallon, 3.5hp.
![]() then i took advantage of having use of my air tools again and smoothed out the flange for the master cylinder and welded it to the spacer ![]() fits perfectly on first try ![]() and mounts up as planned exactly how i wanted and works flawlessly ![]() that was one of 2 big things needed to finnish mock up, the last thing was cold side intercooler piping i had debated about pounding in an area so to speak and keeping the piping in the engine bay, but i figured it might not be a bad idea to run it through the wheel well, so thats what i went with, i think it actually turned out really nice. ( i will close the holes up to make it more flush, i just was guesstimating with my die grinder. pic of it running throughout the well ![]() leaving the inter cooler and exiting the bay ![]() entering the intake ![]() and thats it, i just have to make sure the alternator is adjustable for belt tension and look everything over real good and begin on the fun stuff. getting yet even closer to having it running, its a great goal to reach, so exciting, thanks for reading Last edited by rocknrace03; 01-13-2012 at 10:54 PM. |
