Aluminum 6061-T6, which is the most commonly used aluminum for forged wheels. The aluminum is initially aged at 320 deg F to give the alloy it's strength. Heating it at anything above the original 320 deg F will continue the aging process. Continual aging will improve the strength of the alloy but only to a certain point.

be careful with the sparco's you buy... i have had terrible luck with them fading and falling apart... also try and find a shop that has them in stock so you can sit in them... i had the torino 2s in one of my DSMs and it was a SNUG fit, and i think your bigger than i am as well.

Its so tempting but that guy is on coils and my ride height will be totally off from what is in the pic, more wheelgap considerably. I may have to hold out on this stage till I pay off the car and can afford to actually spend that kinda money. Wheels and tires are gona cost me 1400 or so when said and done, 450 or so for the rollbar, 500? for a seat, and the coilovers I want are 2k

Why do you want to powdercoat the 6UL's anyway?

There's a lot of debate on that topic.

I heard something like that about forged wheels but not cast ones.

So what's the deal with the 6UL. Does the coating process weaken the integrity of the wheel? I may call 949 just out of curiosity.

Why not look into anodizing? Anodizing is actually a form of corrosion that adds a hardness to the surface of most aluminum alloys, 6601 T6 ( i think) being the alloy most familiar. A hard anodize finish is way better then any powder coat (paint) for many reasons. It truly resists scratching, will never peel off, is color fast, and is very corrosion resistant. Note that there are soft anodize finishes (look kind of shiny, and shallow) that are crap, always ask for a hard anodized finish (duller and deeper color). Hard anodize is only available in deep silver and black or slightly bronze color. The dip in electrically charged sulfuric acid (must use titanum racks to caddy the aluminum in this acid) should be one hour long, and the finished product must be properly sealed afterwards by quenching it. End result is a great product that wont weaken your wheels, and I think will turn out better. This method is use in marine applications for aluminum. I've also had it done to my dirtbike wheels.

If you want to powdercoat, you're better off buying a two or three piece wheel which will allow you to remove the center section, leaving the outer rim section unaffected by the annealing process. |

I've heard of anodizing but I wasn't sure what it is. Thanks for the info for sure, I will have to look into it as an option.
Chances are that I won't be doing the wheels quite yet. My car won't have the same stance as the red one, and coilovers are too expensive for the ones I want at the moment. I am considering frame rails and a butterfly brace in the spring however, seeing as the combo is only $400 plus shipping which happens to be cheap by my standard. It also helps a great deal from what I hear, frame rails add 30% rigidity to the chassis and I'm not sure on the brace but it has recieved great reviews from buyers.
