We're doing a 7 course dinner for the Chaine Des Rotisseurs dining group, so I'll have some food pictures up later tonight. All I'm making is the tuna tar tar and sashimi plate, so I have time to just take pics of the courses.

A bunch of women were around me earlier and started telling me how to position the food and I started to get really pissed off. I kept saying "I got it" with a smile, but I probably looked like I wanted to punch someone after the 5th time I said it. They eventually went away after I stopped being polite.

no where near as talented as everyone else in here but these are some of my fav shots ive taken. i dont like to use photo shop so these are un-edited and i use a nikon d40 with the stock lens

jesse, i like your shots you just posted, but on the first, the focal point is a bit off or there is a tiny bit too much Dof and is a bit distracting from an otherwise good image. and the second one was good all but for the angle that you shot it at. if you were raised a bit above the dish, like in your first shot, id say it were perfect. still nice work though, no taking away from that. i know what you mean about people pesting you while shooting, this is why everytime i did a food shoot, it was in a room, by myself, alone with the food. sometimes though i know thats not possible. i did an advert shoot for a local wedding venue where i had a model dressed in a wedding dress and flowers. we were shooting all over the castle at various locations and of course this meant that i had to intermingle with the customers. half the damn people that came in were oooooing and ahhhhing and making comments on how pretty she was and how wonderful things looked. it didnt really distract me much, but the model was no longer acting natural and she was blushing, and ughhh!!! that was the least of it that day.

Thanks for the CC. The DOF bothers me too, but I did not catch it when reviewing it on the camera screen. When Philadelphia Magazine did a photoshoot at my restaurant the photographer had his camera directly linked to a laptop for instant review, and I see why.

yeah, i know what your saying, thats why i always zoom into the subject on the back before moving onto another position, but then again, you were also limited on time as the only time limit i usually have it the few minutes it takes for the food to look like **** !!!

With something like that I'd just close my aperture down quite a bit because you probably want all of the food to be in focus anyway.
