Totally nothing wrong with parents helping their children out - I am all for it, my parents let me live at home so long as I help out and do their car maintenance (which used to be a deal... but now theres too many cars... haha). But the fact is, people in here are acting like they A) have it bad B) don't get help C) got help once and now they're independent...

its kind of ridiculous lol

Wow, really? He asked how I have money. I told him I started saving money when I was 12, which I acquired by cutting grass. Guess it is odd that I know how to save money, right?

Yeah, I'll agree. Most people on tst have it fairly well and shouldn't complain.

If you still have money you saved from cutting grass when you were 12, you got me beat. I spend all that the day I was old enough to start driving.

There is nothing wrong with getting help from family, especially when your in school. But there is a point when it goes from help to being a hand out. Not passing judgement as I don't konw all the facts or anything, just saying it as a generalization.

I agree with you Lagos.

At this point, i live with my parents so sharing living expenses with them allows me to have more disposable cash. But it comes with some strings attached. At times i have to wipe my fathers ass. Sometimes it means not being able to stay out late cause nurses aren't dependable to show up when i have to go to work. Othertimes it means having to tell my mom, go take a shower and have the nurse help you.

Is life fair? No, its a wheel that turns. Somedays are good some are bad.

I earned my allowance by doing chores and working for my dad, doing manual labor(ie he was a contractor,so pretty much everything from running shingles up roofs to hanging drywall). Yes while I am in school they pay my car insurance and my cell bill. I never ask they offered because to them college education is more important then me trying to kill myself by working full time and going to school full time.

I work about 22 hours a week at pepboys right now,and go to college full time. It is not that I could not pay for my own things, but they want me to have money to go out or something. Every dollar then loan me(IE when my car got stolen and i bought the talon) they keep listed up and i pay them back.

So just assuming because someone parents help them you are better is snobish as ****. acting like your **** dont stink

Dude I can't even pretend to be so immature as to inquire how much money you have saved by cutting grass... I just can't do it. But uh, I saved money too - everyone in their life has. No one holds up "cutting grass" as some sort of savings acquisition. Mowing a lawn for $25... quick run down. If you mowed a lawn every weekend since you were 12 (assuming you're about 20 or 21) you'd have $5200 lol. You really think you've only "cost" $5200 since you were 12? Cars, gas, insurance, self-expenses, etc., all your expenditures... do you really think $5,200 cutting a lawn EVERY WEEKEND for 8+ years ammounts to anything? Seriously? And thats obviously not what you did... so we're talking about minuscule, minuscule amounts of money here... all bow tied with the phrase "cutting lawns since I was 12" - its laughable.

When I entered high school, that is when my parents started to buy me stuff. Until then, I had to pay for it. So saving up is what I learned from that and it stuck with me till today. The money I have isn't just from cutting grass. Part of it is, but I got money else where.

Do you really not read? I mean I obviously said that ALL the money I have came from cutting grass, right? Go back and reread, PART of the money I have came from that. Also, I didn't say I cut lawns since I was 12. I said I started saving money since I was 12, and I added that I did it by cutting grass. I did start when I was 12, but I didn't say it so no idea where you quoted that.

I think the animosity toward Sam is that he talks about a lot of things without actually knowing them. I won't disclose conversations we've had in IM but its rather obvious that Sam knows Sams world. I haven't said anything in his thread(s) but Sam IM'd me for several hours numerous times a week asking about what to do for his transmission swap. It wasn't until I told him the specs on his used clutch that he realized it was already shot. Or how to properly remove/insert the rear main seal on the motor he's using - even though I have done this more times than he has cut lawns. I am not really one for "taking credit" - I help tons of guys out with BMW **** daily, but what is funny is that he'd ask and then come onto TST and post that "he figured it out" or something. We all start somewhere, but most people acknowledge that - Sam seems to like to act the experienced sage, when in fact most of what he is doing is for the first time.

Sam you have a real desire to make your situation worse than everyone, harder than everyone, more experienced, and more intelligent than everyone. That's really not appealing. Some of the comments you make are straight up ignorant.

i commute to school and my parents pay for my insurance and my parents pay for my gas. the deal is aslong as im in school they pay for those things. they also pay for my school but if i get bad grades they stop paying for school and all that. my parents used to give me money for food, movies, going out etc. now i have a job they dont give me any money (not complaining) but my dad got me the job pretty much so i owe him alot for that.

Here is the problem....you must not think before you talk. Your parents started buying you things in highschool? So we are assuming that you bought yourself toys, games, etc when you were in grade school? That is what you are saying in your last post.

After all this back and forth....i think the lesson you can take from today is to think before you write.
