Think about it, though, $900 split two/four ways to get a friggin' twin/town house with a backyard, driveway, etc. or $700 to get a small, 1 bedroom apartment with street parking...

I've never had roommates where something didn't happen. Even really good friends I've known... something always happens, but with the amount of money you save and put in savings, if an emergancy comes up you are usually OK.

If you can't afford the rent on your own then don't do it. Roomates/friends can screw you just as easily as a stranger.

Living with people causes tension at some point or another. If there is one thing that can destroy anything it's financial issues.

if you plan on moving into a place with roommates make sure that everyone's name is on lease. that way even if things go wrong everyone is responsible to pay rent.

well that doesn't fully protect you. I lived with a friend at the time. he was bi-polar and tried to commit suicide. The last month we lived there he was in a rehab facility. He was able to use his security deposit as his last months rent. When we moved out he still had crap all over the place and left it a mess. My security deposit was not returned to me. I got screwed out of $500+

If I ever have roomated again, everything is going in my name, they are payming me a depsit and I'm putting it into a special account. If they f' up they are out. Putting everyone on the lease would give them rights lol

I would def only get a place that I could afford on my own, roomates would only be there so I have extra fun/savings money.

Brandon gave his room mate 2-3 months notice about him having to move out, and even paid a full month that he didn't live there so that his room mate could find someone else. His room mate gave no indication that he was planning on moving out too and now they are both being charged for breaking the lease. All the moron had to do was find another room mate or find someone who wanted to take over the lease. So instead of paying a few hundred/month to to rent the apartment while he found someone to take it over, he now owes thousands.

my mom, 9 y/o brother and 11 y/o sister will be my roommates in april for about a year or two.

doing this with mixed feelings. i'm excited to be living in a house with a driveway though... decent enough to be working on the car and off street parking. and plenty of space to have friends over to party down

There are ups and downs to living alone or with family. Atleast someone is always arround so you won't get bored. I have to have someone living with me, I go nuts being alone ever since being in the Army. Def a good chance to use some extra money in good ways, I know you have some solid plans already.
