My logic is not flawed at all. From the cop's point of view: Should I risk hurting myself and possibly this d-bag by tackling him (which could lead to some lame civil suit brought on by the spoiled slob's parent's), or should I use this nifty electronic device guarantying that I do not need to get emergency knee surgery tonight and ensure that any potential injury will be solely inflicted on the dipswitch that is willfully breaking the law? Yeah. Taze the bish.

I'm glad they tazed him. Should have last night too, just to reinforce the policy.

This thread has me on the floor.

Anyway I'm glad they shocked his ass. He was illegally trespassing and he knew it. He may have just been running around the field for good fun, but you can never be too careful when it comes to possibly crazy fans... Look at Monica Seles, she was stabbed in the back with a 9 inch knife during a match by a crazed fan that was obsessed with her... Or the Kansas City Royals first base coach that was attacked while standing at first base by a father and son duo. So I say Taser away, keep these idiots off the field. I bet you that if the Police and Phillies had a publicly known policy that anyone caught running on the field would be Tasered, that this kid would have kept his ass in his seat.

And it's spelled Taser with an S. This is TST, where you must have correct spelling or go home haha

real simple:

If they were on the street and the subject trespassed in your home, and the cops were unable to quickly subdue them, bam taser. And no one would have a problem. Just cause it's at a ballgame doesn't change the situation. The cop has no idea what this person, who performed an illegal act and ignored attempts to stop him, is capable of. They don't have time to sit there and ask the guy "how old are you, did you do this for fun, do you know what is going on right now?" They have to stop the person and make sure they don't hurt themself or anyone else. Period.

Consequences for dumb actions around cops usually involves pain. Alot of kids feel that there should be no consequences for their actions, welcome to the real world buddy.

At the game last night, they had scalper's in the street and instead selling the average run of the mill $5 Chase Utley tee, they were selling ones that read:

GOT DRUNK
GOT HIGH
GOT TASED

...just another day at the ballpark

I thought that was hilarious.

You do realize there has been more than one incidence of people being killed by a taser, right? The cop needed to weigh emergency knee surgery (which I've actually never even heard of - knee surgery isn't usually an "emergency") against possibly killing the kid and spending the rest of his life either behind bars or financially destitute because of the enormous civil suit that would follow.

Tackling the kid has a possibility of injuring him, maybe a slightly higher possibility for injury than tasing him. The problem is, with tasing, right along with the possibility of injury there is also the possibility of death. That cop would fry if he killed a kid just for running out onto a baseball field.

All I'm saying is tasing the kid could have ended up just as bad or even worse for the cop than tackling him. The best thing to do would have been to get multiple cops involved and just corner the kid. He's not gonna keep trying to fight and run away if he's backed into a corner with 4 or 5 cops surrounding him. Chase him until he gets tired. The problem is most cops these days would have a heart attack if they ever actually attempted a full sprint.

Sorry, I don't see any way that tasing this kid was justified (legally anyway - if that was my kid he get a lot worse than tased when he got home). I've never heard of a cop tasing a fleeing suspect in the back.

4 or 5 cops chase him down and corner him or chase him till he gets tired? What if they did that and this kid pulled out a gun while running or when they backed him into a corner and decided to fire at the cops, a player, or into the stands. Look at my last post and you can see what some people are capable of. Sure it's easy to look back and say "well he was just having fun, so they didn't need to taser him". Suppose you found out afterward that he had a knife and was planning to pull it out and stab one of the outfielders. I bet nobody would be bitching about him being tasered then. Cops dont always know what is going to happen so he reacted with what he thought was necessary force and the Philadelphia Police Chief backed him on his decision.

Yeah Tasers can be dangerous, but more to people that have pre existing medical conditions or who use illegal drugs. But would you rather the cop mash them in the head with a baton, use his gun, or use his Taser. There is also pepper spray, but that doesn't always stop someone and we saw how well that worked in a crowded stadium during the Eagles Redskins game a while back. I know I'd rather get the taser than the other 3.

Here are some Taser stats

" A study led by William Bozeman, of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, of nearly 1,000 persons subjected to Taser use, concluded that 99.7% of the subjects had either minor injuries, such as scrapes and bruises, or none at all; while three persons suffered injuries severe enough to need hospital admission, and two other subjects died. Their autopsy reports indicated neither death was related to the use of a Taser."

kid needs to learn consequences of his actions...he was an asshole and willingly stepped into the sitauation....and what happens if the cop runs and tackles said idiot and kid pulls a knife in the process and cop gets fatally stabbed...sorry i feel no sympathy for this idiot...it's not like he was subdued and curb stomped....he was an idiot and hopefully he learned his lesson. you don't know if the kid was high on some **** or intoxicated...officers life comes before assailant in question.

on top of that they have to make an example of said idiot...i went to wvu where we've had issues with fans going nuts and raiding the stadium...and all it takes is one asshole to get the whole crowed riled up and the you have thousands of people raiding the field endangering everybody there..... too many people want to hold ignorant children's hands and not hold them accountable and that's why we have the problems we do with our society. he ****ed up so he gets ****ed up end of story....not lets play tag with him until he gets tired. you get worse treatment mouthing off to the bouncer at a club, there 5 large men come out of nowhere to beat your ass and pepper spray you for the sake of making an example to control the masses in question....

the officer was correct in his decision.....he was evading the police and resisting arrest.... he should've stopped where he stood and taken his arrest like a man....you are not allowed to run from the cops.....
