Good joke.....not.

In short, plastic surgery should be saved for reasons that you NEED it.

Regardless of degree, it's all still an exercise in vanity is what I'm getting at. I'm not against it, but I just wanted to bring up the point that even though planstic surgery is pretty wild, implants are implants, teeth included. If it's done becuase it's necessary, that's one thing; if it's done because of self-esteem, or whatever other complex is present, it's being done for the wrong reasons, and is not going to fix the way you feel about yourself. Just look at Owen Wilson's nose, if people can get over that enough to make him a multi-millionaire, that works off of the way he looks and how well he lies, that might put things into perspective a little bit. If I had a messed-up nose and I was a chick, I'd tell somebody that I headbutted my ex in the face. Instant street cred, and a sense of humor.

does she want the nose fixed purely for cosmetic reasons, or does she have a deviated septum? If so, then I would support that. I have a deviated septum and it really impacts your breathing ability and your life (makes hooking up/kissing very difficult, haha!). I would get mine fixed, but I'm too much of a chicken-$#*!

Just the thought of scalpels cutting open my skin is enough to make me faint. :D

I got my nose fixed about 5 or 6 years ago.

Since I was about 13, I broke it 3 or 4 times. I never really had it checked out until the last time. Over time the breaks were causing a huge calcium deposit build up, so I had a pretty nasty bump in addition to a deviated septum.

After a lot of bs with my original doctor, I ended up seeing a ENT in Voorhees. Thank god I went to him because he did an awesome job. When I went in for my pre-surgery the prior week, the nurses told me he was one of the best ENTs in the country. He doesn't pack the nose at all after surgery (it wasn't stuffed with gauze and such to sop up the blood because there was hardly anything to sop up).

Surgery came and went and I had hardly any bruising at all. I was in no pain. No bs either, I threw out my painkillers 3 days after surgery, after realizing I wasn't going to take any. I've seen pictures of people post nose job surgery with horrible bruising and swelling. All I had was a little bruise under my right eye. It was about the size and shape of a little tootsie roll. lol

Anyway, I'm completely happy with it. If I run my finger down my nose I can feel some roughness underneath, which I've been told happens from time to time. Apparently it can be fixed with another touch-up job, but I'm not going in for more surgery. The other thing is they put you under general anesthesia for the procedure. It's a big deal for some people, but to me it was just like taking a long nap.

Something like 80% of the population has a deviated septum but like previously stated if it impacts quality of life get it fixed. It is a very painful procedure, you'll have racoon eyes for a little while. My nose is crooked from boxing but I'm not bothering to fix it since I still do full contact martial arts.

OMG! I'm def not getting mine fixed now! I played rugby for 4-5 years and had my nose broken numerous times (as well as a few playing basketball) lol. It DEFINITELY impacts my quality of life, but there is no way I'm having someone filet my nose open and cut stuff up in there. Ain't happening, especially now that i'm understanding how painful it is... i'll deal with my big Italian, non-functioning schnozz!

Also, this may be a topic for another thread, but I hate girls w/ artificial tans. I don't know why they think that orange-hued skin looks good. Even if a girl was everything else I look for, if she had fake-orange-tan, I wouldn't pursue. I think its also a symptom of some kind of psychological problems as well. Go outside! Get natural sunlight, even if you don't get as dark as you would, at least it looks natural and isn't as harmful to you. God, thats the last thing i would want to be is stuck with a 35-year old (down the road) girl who looks like shes 50 because of her leathery wrinkled orange skin...

I don't think plastic surgury is good at all... unless a deformity happens by accident, I dont think anyone ever needs it.

gotta work with what you got.

If you have trouble breathing, definitely get it taken care of while you are young. The longer you wait, the worse and longer your recovery will be. I was back in basketball practice within 3 days (with no hard running) and I was limited to no contact for two weeks. Then I was back on the court, with a mask of course which I wore for a month.

They don't cut the outside of your nose. Everything is done up through your nostril. There is no visible scar. They will give you painkillers too. I had hydrocodone, but like I said I didn't need it, and not because I bared the pain, I literally had no pain. The doc said he could prescribe stronger stuff if I was having a hard time with the pain but that wasn't the case.

Just another general thing relating to my experience (especially if you or anyone is putting off a surgery). When the doc went in to fix my deviated septum, he found tissue (skin) growing in a big crack at the base of my nasal bone. No one had any idea it was there, since x-rays of the head are generally frowned upon. Before he fixed it, I'd get these random shots of stabbing pressure and pain on the right side of my head. I haven't had it since.

but I'm so scared!!!....

I only have trouble breathing thru my nose. lol. it thats probably compounded by my sinuses and allergies. On a daily basis, I don't think about it too much, I guess I'm probably used to it. But yeah, when I'm trying to kiss a girl (on rare occasion) I have to stop and take breathers through my mouth so I don't suffocate. :D I'm like "um, sorry, hold on 2 seconds... GASP GASP... okay, i'm good." i think its kindof funny.

I'm sure my nose is ALL f'd up, but I just can't bring myself to do elective surgery unless I'm in pain or imminently going to be. If I ever get my nose broken again I'll probably do it.

If it is to repair something that is causing you pain, or a deformity from an accident or genetic defect, than it is fine. But having it done to make yourself look different I just don't understand. Changing your appearance will not give you confidence. Most people who get plastic surgery continue doing so and changing other things because they still find imperfections. No one is perfect and people just need to learn to accept that.

My theory with plastic surgery, if you're gonna do it, make sure you go to the top guy, don't settle for joe schmoe. And make sure whatever you get done you're damn content with, think of it like a 3D tattoo, lmao.

The thought of surgery in general makes me want to scream. I've had to go through a few due to medical circumstances -- and there is no way in HELL I would voluntarily put myself through that for ANY reason.

I'm in agreement with those that have said people getting plastic surgery just to fix a minor appearance flaw .. have other issues that they truly need to deal with. Standing in front of a mirror and picking out everything that's 'wrong' with your body doesn't mean that you need to fix your body -- it means you need to fix the thing that's wrong in your head, that makes you view yourself so viciously.

my ex had her nose fixed and changed it a bit (she thought it was a bit big..) so she had it done, and it actually cant tell at all. looks natural. Im for it as long as, like what was said before, you dont look like joan rivers, MJ, etc.. or boobies. they are just fine natural :D
