looks like my AVCS plugs aren't in deep enough. causing the camshaft to not sit flush and wobble around. The mating surface of the pulley is uneven now. There is a lip on one side of it due to the camshaft digging into it. On the other side it is flush. There is also uneven distances on the sides. And you can see where the plugs contacted the backside of the mating surface. Can also see the 1 of the 4 plugs IS in far enough.

I think the actual noise was coming from the dowel rocking back and forth in the sprocket. Amplified by these hollow STi camshafts. Either way, gonna try and get the plugs in further or shave them down. New cam sprocket being overnighted from across the country.

the camshaft itself feels smooth as butter, can spin it fine with my bare hand. Going to take it out probably to perform the work on the plugs.
