why shouldn't a gay man or woman have the same freedoms w/o facing hate?

equal rights for equal people is all i'm saying. gay men and women are no better or worse than you or I. Sexual preference does not dictate a person's worthiness of respect.
this is the part i most agree with. they should have the same rights and freedoms, no question about it. when i see 2 guys (or 2 girls) holding hands or kissing in public i'm not too thrilled to see it, but i don't think anything more about it besides "yuck". there's no excuse to hate someone for wanting to live the way they choose just like anyone else.

Now, as far as this prom "queen" is concerned... i don't agree with it. not because he's gay... but because he ruined something for someone else. If he wanted a crown, he should have went for prom king. Would the school have allowed a straight male to run for prom queen? i doubt it... that is the problem. not this kid being gay
/\ this is the part that bothers me. what i said earlier had everything to do with this part, not above.

(i know i'm repeating myself, but..)

it's the special treatment... the 'we'll let this kid do it because he's gay'... the wearing your sexuality like a badge.. kind of thing. think 'gay pride parade'. that's what i've been trying to get at. that kind of s*** is completely unnecessary IMO. that's the stuff that makes me say keep it to yourself, and that i don't flaunt my straight-ness like it's some kind of status that makes me proud to be different than another group of people. i dunno, it's hard to explain.

basically i think that kid is just an idiot. gay or straight doesn't matter. you don't run for freakin' prom queen if you're a dude. lol
