After market HG, I used Cometic on my 3sgte. The factory head bolts are stretch to yield, meaning you cannot reuse them. Order new factory bolts, and the factory calls for them to be torqued down to 46 lbs plus a 90 degree turn. Horse ****, ARP recommends at least 70 or so, I forget,but it needs to be at least 75. My supra's head is torqued to 90 from the factory, and we never blow head gaskets. My MR 2's thats another story, they blow them left and right. So more torque, you won't regret it. I swear, been there, done that.

^^if you are going to increase torque you should just buy the ARPs. it is quite possible that the stretch to yield bolts have issues in strength when torqued that high, dont over-do torque on factory bolts, ARPs are under 100.

I ordered factory bolts because with a Cometic stock width gasket. I'll ask around on the OC to see what torque spec to use and go from there. The car won't see boost for a WHITE when the engine is back together.

After talking with my friends that are helping me, this car should see Sonic this year. Keep your fingers crossed for me everyone

The discount is no worry. I called in a favor at Fred Beans and got it all taken care of

My friends Mark and Tony are helping me do the work. They both work at the dealer the car is at, so a lift, and air tools will make things a little easier. Of course I will be there... probably pitch a tent there so I can work on the car as much as possible haha. I trust both of them and they understand my relationship with my car and my attention to detail. It will turn out great.

Oh and I ordered ARP headstuds. Found a good deal on them from an MR2 board vendor! Better safe than sorry.

Do a search on them on the OC. There are a bunch of threads NoShoes made about retorquing procedures that have to be done with the ARP's after they are installed. Thats why sometimes its easier to just go with oem, but either way works.

yeah, I feel safer with the ARP stuff... plus for what they are, they're not that much more expensive than OEM.

haha, well before the whole incident how did it pull at 12lbs? I think i read you put it up to 15lbs without tuning or management? Do you want me to punch you in the peepee next time i see you at the q-town meet or later?

haha, what where your a/f's like when you uped the boost? Didnt you see it leaning out?

Least you know whats going on with the motor now since doing a nice little rebuild *thumbs up for keeping the car*

I didnt SEE it doing anything. Art said he thought he saw it being lean the entire time but he was across the room and couldn't read the computer screen 100%. Only 1 plug showed a lean condition, which will do it, but you know.

It pulled like a mother ****er at 12lbs... at 16 it was like night and day lol.

Yeah yeah, im sure i'll get punched in the balls a bunch when the car is back.

It was lean, then it blew. Keep in mind that this is an 18yr old motor with something like 150k on the clock? So stuff like this is not uncommon.
Its also a It made 100hp on 3cylinders, so that still better than an NA 4cylinder motor.

btw, Dan... now is a great time to get that downpipe we talked about. You going to do it? It will suck ass doing it later while the motor is installed. its good for about 20hp and you shave a good 50lb from your car by ditching that cast iron monster.

Damn thats ****ty luck. Make sure your buddies do everything right while you have it all apart. Nothing is worse than having to rebuild it a month later

i wish I could... unless you and the wonderful people of TST wanna buy me an early b-day present/feel bad because my motor blew up gift.... then it's just gonna have to wait.

get the cheap-0 40$ one from ebay. Just make sure it has a support bracket and that you grind the flange down!
