EDIT: Furthermore, never did I say I was above the law. I stated one of a few common practices amongst law enforcement officials, which are legal, to stop the scenario which I had described. I'd like you to think before you type from now on. Publicly attacking a public officials civic duties isn't the best card to play, especially when you know little to nothing about individual departments policies and procedural guidelines. Thread reported to have mods clean it up.
There is nothing to clean up in this thread. I hope the mods read through and come to the same conclusion, that this is all very informative when purchasing a handgun. I stated actual case law and statutes, while you stated opinion. I guess when you are ABOVE THE LAW statutes and case law don't matter, so you are allowed to be uneducated. Hell, you didn't even know, or couldn't find the statute saying that open carry was legal!!!

I also hope that you are not facing any future lawsuits, or get fired for handling the situation as you stated that you would (or even implied that you could).

I never understood the reason to openly carry a weapon anyway. I mean, you're just asking for trouble and even though it's legal to do so it just doesn't seem very civil these days. I respect the fact that we can openly carry but it's just not necessary. sure, it might make you intimidating and someone may think twice about what they're going to do but I think concealed carry is better in general.

FWIW, I carry concealed 99% of the time. As comfortable as my comp tac minotaur holster is for day to day carrying, open carrying with my cheap OWB holster is the only comfortable way to carry when I'm in my work jeans and sweaty (after work). I have been asked by police how I was doing that day, in which I had pleasant responses, and I have been ignored by police who noticed the gun more times than "confronted" (I use that term loosely). I have never had an officer comment on the gun itself.

It's not about intimidation for me, although I would completely understand the impact that some might think it has. I always assume that it's a police officer when I see an ordinary dressed person with a gun in the open. It's certainly a deterrent to potential criminals, but as you stated, I much prefer the less noticeable approach.

Now that I've had the time to read over all the pages and sources posted, I can admit to being wrong and not knowing everything, and you shouldn't expect us to. There are so many laws and caselaws, it's almost rediculous (let alone I don't really see a purpose to open carry unless you're on a farm). Maybe you can back off my dick now with your personal attacks towards me, ITSTOCK. Go teach at a police academy if you like to "inform" (breaking ****ing balls) so much. also, way to sig a PM.
