Wow You guys are clueless when it comes to things like this.. People who steal cars USUALLY ( if they are sort of smart) wipe their prints off or at least try to.And generally, if a car was broken into, or stolen and they found it, They take the prints and run them in the Database to see if they have a match. Its a standard thing if they have found the stolen car, let alone if it was broken into. This is done in hopes of catching the thief. However like i was saying, this thief in this incident wasn't smart enough to wipe the prints, they instead torched a rare car to get rid of the evidence.Which btw, there are ways they found out it was an attempted car thievery.

Tho I Agree on the cops following up thing.. locally anyways.

Good god I hate being all Analytical and intellectual.. are you 2 plotting something?

yeah on the local level here.. thats because your PD is likely lazy.. like mine is however, my Boyfriend's Dad's car got broken into Sunday afternoon and they printed the car there. Of Course that was in Delaware, so I'm sure they are more practical seeings as Pa is full of lazy cops who don't like doing their job unless its pulling their gun out or tazer out and taking some drug dealing gun toting moron off the streets or Pulling someone over that totally didn't deserve it... But yeah on the local level, I can see EXACTLY why you haven't heard of or seen it done on the local level. Plus it costs money for a small department to send things off to the state crime lab. they try not to do it for that reason im sure.

It is something that is SUPPOSED to be standard at ALL levels of law enforcement.. and they Teach it in the Academy. Some local departments don't do it tho.

Edit : on that note, it costs the average SMALL department $350 to send fingerprints to the crime lab. Maybe If you want to see them do this more often to catch the Dbags that do these things, Talk to your local state rep and get a bill passed that drops the fee of using the NCIC at the state crime lab considerably.
