thats another reason why I wouldn't want a car girl. I admittedly am not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to cars, hence why I bought a classic truck I'm going to do the work on myself, to learn... myself

I learn best on my own, doing something... dating someone that knew a lot about cars would annoy me. Women, in general, like to 'show off' when they know a lot about something, and enjoy making guys feel stupid for knowing less about a subject. Especially when its a "guy" subject. I honestly would get pissed with the, "well why didn't you do it this way? I could have helped with that..."

My ex is bad enough with trying to tell me how to paint my truck... I'll kick her in the box next time she does that

Being friends with car chicks, or FWB, that's another story.

lol, to clarify; I realize this post makes me sound bad lol. I'm really not complaining about car chicks... more like complaining about dating someone that won't let me learn at my own pace on something because they know more about it. Maybe its just a little left over angst from my know-it-all ex

My g/f knows a decent amount about cars, but just basic **** so she can deal with me talking about cars every now and then. She still thinks its a total waste of money, but i think pink cell phones are gay so w/e. Also, even though shes not into cars, shes into sports. Ill be honest, i have never followed sports at all, even a little bit. So i guess thats somewhat her thing. Oh, and the swimming, the ****ing swimming. I will never make her go to another car meet if she promises i wont ever have to drive an hour, and sit through an hour and a half of people i dont know swimming to watch her swim for 50 seconds.

I'm more of the give me the basics kind of girl. I love learning anything I can about cars though, provided I'm in the mood to obtain it.

My love for cars is something he and I have in common. I have been going to car meets and events long before I met him, and its something we enjoy together. I don't care to go to every single one, but its nice to be able to have that interest. He does his photography for the most part on his own, which is his career pretty much.

I will admit I get a pretty decent portion of his time, but its not an "or else" thing. I just have to find better ways to manage my free time, than to consume his all of the time. I start college in a year or two full time, so when that happens I'll be busy again.

And I pretty much cannot stand the color pink most of the time, let alone HOT pink.

bingo....

its a great escape to just sit around, talk cars and have fun and relax. the last thing i need is to have a gf attached to my hip during these times when im trying to esacpe the torture of relationships and the day in general. ive had gf's during these car obsessives years of mine and they were far from supportive.

maybe its my awful past relationships that leave a sour taste in my mouth about women, but this thread helps me be thankful for being single.

i see a lot of guys at meets, especially in the warmer months, they bring their "trophy" gfs and their "arm candy" to show off to their friends but the downside is they have to put up with her bull**** all night, tryin to keep her happy and still have fun "with the guys"... maybe its just me but that isnt worth it....

i dont kno how some of u guys walk around with them bitching and complaining about every little thing u do...drove me nuts

This one girl who I hope is my girlfriend one day races at the same track as me and runs a '69 camaro that runs now 10.0s. I think it is really hot that she does. I think it is great that we both share the common interest of drag racing.

I think the key though is having a girl that DOESN'T do that. I would never be with someone that A) bitches and complains about everything i do and B) doesn't share a few common interests with me, and C)one that loves to buy new shoes and purses every week. F-THAT.

I don't share all the same interests as my wife, but cars is definately one of them! Shes the one that encouraged me to buy my WS6 when I had it, and she got ME into WRX's after she test drove one when they first came out. We both have WRX's now. I also don't doubt that she could outshift some of the guys on here...
So yeah, to the original poster... I hear ya!!
The hardest part is finding girl like that, who doesn't look like a dude.... When ya do...marry 'em.

Over 6 years together my girl eagerly learned everything she knows about cars from me. She helped me build the Turbo Dodge, became good friends with all my car buddies, considers our yearly Shelby Dodge convention our "vacation", and then bought the car off me when I needed something more reliable.

Now when we fight... she threatens to turn up the boost.

Some do. But I've noticed, in general, "car girls" don't go around bragging about how much more they know about guys. When guys go spewing off things about their car, or even my car, just to show off, I'll step in and correct them and put them in their place. I don't stand for being talked down upon. But I've never met a real gear-head girl who did that to guys. We're a slightly different breed of girl

that is the key!!! my fiancee could care less about cars and kinda harps on if I try to blow money on it.

But my other love is hockey and she has never once complained about staying home with our son while im out playing hockey sometimes until midnight on a weeknight. lol She doesnt have to like it, but she accepts that it is a passion of mine, and thats what matters.

None of that, "I don't get this car stuff, so I don't like you doing it" more like "oh that's cool if you want to go racing. Hey its your money, spend it on what you like"
you are a crack head

Remember, being a REAL "tuner" is knowing more than just cars. There are very few GUYS I know that can grasp the basics of thermodynamics, physics, or programming.

God help me if I ever meet the likes of a female powertrain engineer. That will be an awkward relationship.

exactly my point

Me, when a guy starts talking about their car to brag, I start listening like I do when a chick is talking to me about their shoes... "uh huh... yeah... ok... oh that's cool..."

And just because a guy is talking about something to "show off" doesn't mean they're talking down on you. It just means they're trying to impress you, and everyone else around them with their huger knowledge. Just make fun of him when he walks away with the rest of the guys.
