$30k for a car that uses cheap plastic interior parts and runs low 14s. Thanks, I'll pass. More car for less? You do realize the Miata is pretty much the handling benchmark for cars under $30k? There's more to a car than what it does in a straight line. If I was worried about my ego and needed a fast straight line car, I would've bought a Z06.

Before I bought my gay Miata, I was looking at the 350Z, G35 coupe, S2000 and 2.5 Legacy GT. The 350Z was on the bottom of the list and was the first one I crossed off.
lol........14s huh? try mid to low 13s bone stock. don't confuse the older Z with the 07+ with the HR motors. not to mention the fact that the Z is plenty capable when you hit the track. plus you don't have to worry about guys calling it a girl car and girls telling you how "cute" it is.

i did look at and want the G35 first, love the interiors on them.

the d60 is almost identical to the d40x. you could prob get that at a reduced price now that the d60 is out. VR on an 18-55 isnt necessary imo

As you suggested, I went to the camera shop (was at KOP with my dad so decided to stop by). The guy behind the counter explained everything to me, let me hold the cameras and play with them, and from what he said, I am leaning more towards the XTi..he said there is an XSi coming out soon but the features on it to me arent worth the extra money. They were selling the XTi with an 18-55mm lens for 699. I found them for about 550 on ebay with the 18-55 or a 28-80 lens. It felt nice and weighty, and the lens selection is nice as well. IIRC he said that canon has 85 lenses that can be used with it, and there are 150ish from the aftermarket. Definately a nice camera, buttons laid out well. He confessed he is a Canon fan however, so that may sway it one way or another. The Nikon cameras they had were expensive aside from the D40 which is a bit small and is limited by the lens type it uses.

Any other info is greatly apretiated

seems like you got some solid information. be careful buying on ebay though, lots of times that can affect your manufacturer warranty depending on the situation. Check out www.fredmiranda.com, they have a good for sale section and you may be able to find something for a good price.

About Sony DSLRs he said that the lenses that can be used are Minolta and Sony (i think lol) and that the selection is still very narrow. He said that Canon has been using the same lenses since 1985 and that they are integrachangable between SLR and DSLR Cameras, something that is a real plus if I ever want to shoot film. My grandpa has an SLR but its a Konica Minolta, it would be nice if it was a Canon, I would have more reason to get their DSLR and have 2 different bodies with 1 set of lenses, but even without that I really liked the camera, considering the new NIKON ones they had in stock were the D40 (799 i think) and the next up was the D80 for i dont remember what and then on to the D200 for 1300ish

Oh also, since I can get them in little "package deals", I have 2 options for lenses. There is an 17-55 and a 28-80.

Which is better all around, I want something good for general purpose for now, I will get a Macro attachment and filters and such for the lens either way, just need to know what to get.

go with the 17-55. since the canon xti has a sensor crop factor, the 28-80 is a pretty useless zoom range imo.

Do not bu from a shady web site that advertises the camera for hundreds less. It's a scam. I would purchase thru B&H. and use the links in the sticky.

Before buying any electronics online, search for reviews of the store first. when i was looking to get my d40, i saw it advertised for $600, the camera retails for around $1100. I read reviews about the shop and everyone review was poor. You buy it online, they send you an email saying please call to confirm your order, you call, and then they try to sell you over priced accessories. You decline them, and then they tell you the camera you ordered is the Japaneese version and it won't work in the US. and it has no warranty.

Someone was selling an xt or xti on here used? So check the classifieds, I sold my xt with the 18-55 kit lens, 2 memory cards, camera bag, and a wide angle lens adapter for $400.

It's spelled appreciated.

And look on Google, look at the sample shots on http://photography-on-the.net/forum/ if you are looking at lenses, look at dpreview.

Don't expect to get spoon fed, this is basic stuff, and mostly preference, you need to look around and do the research for what you want.

Just buy a used D80 with the kit 18-70 and a 70-300 (VR if you wanted to drop some cash) and be done with it.

How is the 400D though compared to them. The 20/30D are a bit out of my price range, altohugh I held and loved them too.

Id like to be within 800 for a body and lens new or used, would prefer more than one lens though. IIRC, just the 20/30D bodies are that much.

edit: also found this site that has a LOT of kits

If you're patient, you can find slightly better deals for sellers that want to sell their gear asap.

The 2nd wheel on the xxD bodies make it much easier to make adjustments. I don't like the 4-button system on the Rebel bodies.

Aside from the convenience you could say, between the Rebel and xxD, what are the technical differences?? I noticed that they are less Pixels, and thats not all that determines price, but why do they cost that much more?

If you compare the current Rebel (400D) to the current 40D, there are differences - 1) larger viewfinder on 40D, 2) magnesium body on 40D, 3) larger body (more comfortable to hold) on 40D, 4) higher FPS, 5) larger buffer, 6) larger LCD, 7) longer-life battery, 8) live view

Basically, the ergonomics is better. From the sound of it, the 450D will be getting a larger viewfinder, larger image buffer, bigger LCD, and switching to SD memory cards. The megapixel doesn't mean a thing because the sensor size isn't changing. You're just extrapolating a larger image from the same size sensor, so the 40D will have a higher pixel density count and better image quality, especially at higher ISO.

I started out on a Rebel body but quickly got tired of the small size and less-than-ideal ergonomics. Once you start shooting in manual/aperture/shutter mode, the poor Rebel ergonomics become evident. If someone offered me a 400D or 450D as a straight up trade for my 20D, I wouldn't do it. Yeah, it's an older body with an older processor but it's still more than capable. Both of my bodies are using technology from 2003/2004 but most wouldn't know by looking at the pictures.

Thanks for the info. Ive seen your shots and love them, I dont know if you sometimes use outside lighting to help you (lamps, etc.) but they are crisp and clean. I dont want to drop too much money, but if the 30D is that much better than the 400D, it might be worth it. Havent looked at the 40D yet but its definately out of my price range, I want something that is entry level but enough to last me for a while..if after a few years I see that I am getting limited, I will upgrade but my main objective is just to be able to take nice pictures for myself, I dont plan to make money from this or a career.
