Damn Adam, that sucks

I was just talking to John about your car at work the other day, I was hoping it'd be up and running for some of these Wed. night meets. We need some decent people there lol. Good luck with it all dude.

There is a nice crack down the side of the block, you couldnt see it because of how small it was and because of its location. Its cracked right where the banjo bolt for the turbo oil supply line goes into the block. Oil POURS out of that hole when you try to turn the car on. I am guessing that this engine was dropped (hence the hole in the oil pan, and the crack in the block.) Or it overheated.

Either way, the shop I bought it from ASSURED me that they run their engines for 2 hours each before they sell them, and that this one was a good engine. The next engine I buy is going to be from a reputable place. (This place was right off 8th st. in Philly).

It's just really frustrating, I spent $~800 in maintenance parts and now I have to take ALL that stuff off the old engine, and some of it I cant even reuse. Also, I never NEEDED to replace my old engine, it was just a want because of the low compression and bad valve seals. Live and learn.

Edit: Thanks Dan. I'll let you know when John and I are working on it. You can stop by and hang out/help .

Just a small update.
I was able to return the bad engine for a full refund. I am never going back to that place again.

Also, I ordered another engine from a very reputable place today. Unfortunately, they are out in CA, so shipping to my house was $450 . The total price came to $1100. The engine will hopefully be here by next Friday, and I am planning on working on it through the entire weekend and having it up and running on Sunday. That is if everything goes as planned, which it never does LOL.

Specs on the new engine are:
1996 850R engine, 92k.
Perfect compression across all cylinders. :D.

Also, since I've had nothing to, I've taken some time to do some small misc things:

Polished some engine pieces:
(these were black and covered in grease when I started, no buffing wheel was used yet)

Detailed the crap out of my interior (looks new for 182k), and wired all of my sub and amp wiring under the carpeting:

Can anyone spot the crack? (this is why the engine I just returned was bad)

How she sits now:

Dude, I can NOT stop driving it.
the engine is running beautifully and the car is fast as ****.

Still need a new coolant temperature sensor, and a few other odds and ends. Also have to put the FMIC back in.

Anyways, I have had a fat smile on my face all day. I am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking happy.

Also, I never updated this thread. I ended up destroying my original transmission (bolted it on incorrectly which ended up making the torque converter push a nice hole out the back of the trans). That one had 182k on it. Thankfully, a friend had one for sale with 84k on it, and he let me have it for $175 b/c he felt bad for me LOL. My car really is low mileage again. 92k on the engine, 84k on the trans.

:D

Nothing too exciting lately.
I have ~1,500 miles on the new engine. Everything is great.

Got a chance to clean up the engine bay (front mount is still not in, I've been lazy).

Added a slash to the grille, not sure how I feel about it, its easy to put on/take off.

A few current pics:

Some new stuff...
Bought a 2.75" Remus cat back exhaust to replace my 2.5" catback with magnaflow muffler. I will post sound clips after I have it installed.
I am also going to have the front bumper and rear spoiler resprayed next month. The paint on the front bumper looks like crap, and the rear spoiler...Well, I have been planning to have it painted for a while.

Also, for some reason the car is running rich as hell... Like, out of the range of the wideband rich. The tune is known to run rich, but not THIS rich. It is probably because I have added several other mods that the ECU isnt tuned for (full exhaust, fmic, ebc, etc etc). It is time for a custom tune. I contacted verocious to see if they can help me out, still waiting to hear back from them. If not, there is a place near UMD that can do it for me, but I would prefer a more local tuner.

I really dont think it is a boost leak at this point. My vacuum is fine and I can hold 17lbs of boost. I will double check everything when I re-install the front mount though. I guess you could be right

New Remus 2.75" cat back exhaust.
Acceleration is smoother, exhaust is quieter at idle, but sounds like a supercharger at WOT. I'm in love. Also, the exhaust tip is not sticking out or crooked like my last one was.

Next up:
-Larger injectors
-New tune
