When I got it it DIDN'T run. I had not planned on getting ot to run today, since it was supposed to have a bad fuel pump.
+1 for getting it to run. It makes a lot of knocking from the front of the motor too, so I decided not to go tearing up and down the street!

never question my motives Peter.

ewww....could be the timing chain making a lot of noise along with the headgasket....but I'm guessing it's rebuild time <shrug>

I just saw a decent milage KA24DE on ebay for about $200.

I'll be totally honest, this car is not getting an SR anytime soon.
I have the EVO for power right now, plus I am still unemployed. So for now a used KA, or a rebuild on this one....

If thats a KA24, I had one in my Altima. It was a fun little motor until I threw a rod through the block.

It is indeed a KA24E, single cam. Supposedly 89 was the higher compression(9.0-1 compared to 8.6-1 in 90-93 cars) motor.
I pulled the valve cover yesterday and everything looked good. Didn't seem to be any excessive chain slap. Also didn't look like any condensation on the top, like a normal blown HG. More diagnostics to come.

You've got a DE right? Have there been cracked head issues, or just blown gaskets with the single cam KA24E's?

Yeah, I have the DE.

I've heard more stories of warped heads than cracked ones, honestly.

We'll see. I just posted up on NICO/240SX.org
I would rather do a HG than a motor swap right now.

edit: I added the zero

if your head/block isn't true/flat you're just gonna have to pull it all anyway....

I apparently wasn't really in the club anyway. There was just a buttload of coolant and crap in the exhaust. Took a few days of running it to get it out.
The noise was a loose fan on the pulley smacking around. So now all I need to do is fix the exhaust leak after the cat, and I'm all good. Tha's going to suck, the bolts are rusted so bad there aren't even threads showing. Probably going to need to get a cat and catback. :thumbdow:
