Since you now have the M, I’d say keep it.

1) I think the value will still hold even with the new E92 on the horizon.
2) And the E46 is the last M3 with an In-line 6. I think it will remain a classic.

I’d say wait another year for the price to drop on Evo 9s and then get a pre-owned one. With the Evo X on the streets, people will be trading the 9s. You could have both the M and an Evo.

P.S. If all else fails get a Supra.

I'm sure you know how many evo owners sell they're evo's to buy an m3 and then sell the M3 to buy another evo!!Either get an EVO or a luxury sedan, not a gt car, because thats what the m3 turned into..

Really? I never see any. Matter of fact the exact opposite is true, I see far more M3's than Evo's.

What galaxy do you live in? I see an M3 once every week and a half or so... at best. I see Evos every day.

She may not be a “10” but she can run the 100 meter dash in no time flat. I think that’s what “olsookie” is missing… the thrill.

However, I still say hang on to it and mod it. Wheels, suspension, and chip/exhaust really make the care even grander, more exclusive. Stock M3s don’t really get the blood pumping for me.

Isn't a stock E46 faster than a stock evo in just about every single thing??? (except....rally!?!?!?!? )

Anyway, you get something faster, better looking, more comfortable (or in this case, comfortable), more refined, and just a perfect all around car in the M3. With the evo, you get a car that you can spend more and more money on to break parts and possibly go faster, very uncomfortable, and drives like a go cart, but it's still slower. So sure, the evo might be more fun for a little while because it drives like a go cart, but taking a huge step DOWN from the M3? I wouldn't. So what do you want? A go cart, or a great piece of machinery?

The 9s are actually pretty quick. I don’t see M3s running 13.0s like the Evo 9. And the addition of MIVEC and the “hotside” really wake things up. There are guys that run 12.9s with Evos, and no mods. M3s are very fast on the highway beyond 100mph.

When I was stock (and the 8s are a bit slower than the 9s,) I raced both an E39 M5 and an M3. Beyond 100mph, the M3 began to pull away ever so slowly, but from 0-100, neither car could keep up.

“Point to point,” the Evos are one of the quickest cars out there. And I frequently drive the M and an MR 9… I love them both.

But like I said, a chip and exhaust make the M so much more fun on the highway. Err, or get a Supra.

I forgot he had them. Yet another reason to stick with the M3.

It's already been said once, turbo the M. Yes, an Evo is faster, but RWD is so much more fun than AWD. Or, buy a full on track car, and keep the M3 reasonably stock. Once you hit the track, you never go back!
