I just want to tell you something that someone very special told me and it's very true. If you have a personality, the drive, and the mental strength to keep pushing forward to change your life you can. I have no degree, no experience, nothing. The job I am at now someone gave me a chance. From my last job I have doubled my salary, I work in Center City (which is tits), and I am with a great group of people who really want to help me succeed further to make more money. We all have rough patches but look at your life. You have a great girlfriend, nice car, don't have a mortgage or rent to worry about. Your only stickler is your financial situation.

I am so lost at work right, have no clue how I am getting home (since I only have $1 in my pocket and the train ride home is more then that), but I have great people around me who are willing to help me succeed. Like the other Sandy and Susie said before. Don't feel discouraged or embarassed by taking handouts. There is a huge difference between needing and taking advantage.

But everyone else around you has this great lunch. Or even having to choose between eating that day at all or putting gas in your car so you can work and get back home? I'm getting pretty tired of living like this and I don't know what I am doing at this job. I drive about 65-85 miles a day now. So that means I'm filling up every 2 3 days. I really hope things are going to start working out because at this rate I don't know whats going to happen.
Dude, I'm in the same friggin boat except I'm 30 and getting married next summer. With a freaking Master's I'm making chump change, just got passed up for a promotion because my boss is insane in every sense of the word and hired someone who is way too over qualified, 4 people have quit in the last three weeks, I'm doing all of their jobs in the interim, and got denied today for a temporary salary increase to supplement the increased work load that I'm doing. I also just completely missed the hiring season for my profession and will likely have to wait an entire year to even start looking for new jobs. Everyday is struggle to figure out how I'm ever going to afford a house and kids.

On top of that, I had to sell the car I've always wanted to my little brother after 6 months of ownership because I couldn't afford the payments. Do you know how embarrassing that is.

However, like everyone says, you have to cling to things that make you happy, and for me that is my fiancée.

We are going to be the first generation where the majority of us aren't going to be better off than our parents...

Also this keeps me going

Best advice in here IMO

I hate asking people for money and I'd rather live homeless than ask but true friends/parents/anybody will help if they see you are really trying and your stuck in a rut.

I have been there. I am 33 and have had many careers. I was a Chef, Mortgage Broker now I am a IT Project Manager. Money does not measure your success. Trust me the more money you make the more you spend.

You need to work through the tough times and enjoy the good ones. You seem to be doing what you need to and the pay off is there just not today. I have no degree and have always worked hard to get where I am. I make pretty good money. My salary has always gone up at least 25k when I goto another job. Keep focused and try things. You are young enough and with little responsibility where you can go and try things. I HATE WHAT I DO. But it pays the bills.

Do be to proud to ask for help. Everyone needs help every now and again. And when you get back on your feet you make sure you help someone pay it forward concept. Your life could be a lot worse. Keep your head up seems like you have a lot of support around you!

Well it's got to be a step up from robbing a bank, which at this rate is sounding more likely everyday.

lol you wear a tie? I didn't wear a tie a single day I worked

Keep at it, remember what your goal is for the month and aim for that. Day's Inn usually takes out a full page color in some of the special sections, that's 2-3k most times!!!

I'm not sure how open you are to starting random convo's at the mall and what not, but thats a great way to get used to talking to people.

Thats what this job is allll about. Talking to people, finding out what makes them tick.

You are NOT selling ad space, you're selling a solution. The problem? Find out what that problem is. Is the businesses wednesday slow? Run an ad that says come in for wednesday specials, etc.

You create the ad WITH the customer. Sketch **** out. Jot down bullet points, sketch out forms of objects, etc. Show them what it could look like.

Oh, the Carpet Giant on 611 buys 1/4 page ads a lot :-).

You can't win the owner over if you don't win over the people in your way. Win over the old guy at the front desk, he'll get you in touch with the owner.

Above all, be honest. Don't guarantee the ad will swamp their store with customers... ads take time to have an effect. Its one of those things, unless its a HUGE ad/discount, thats gonna be like "I need a vacuum... I think I remember seeing an ad in the paper for a store..."

Sales is a real job, but one you can learn while doing. While everyone else goes to school to study and then go to work... you have to do both at the same time. Work and study.

Look professional, have your own personality. People will buy from you because they like and trust you. Not because the advertising is going to make or break their business.

Like I said above... I never wore a tie. I don't wear a tie now and I meet with GM's of Hotels, Business owners, etc. **** ties... this is 2007

Def wear what you want. my biggest pet-peave is that chicks can pretty much wear whatever the **** they want, specially when its hot out and guys are STUCK with wearing a suit. Screw that. I wear polo's to work half the time. I hate button ups now.

The paperwork was a bitch and a half... I was fixing my stuff pretty much all the time... you'll get used to it. I haven't seen it in so long I doubt I could help.

How many TST members are there now anyway?
